  3. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE • In the Old Testament the Jews were commanded by God to care of the poor. • The Old Testament prophets criticized the people for taking advantage of those without money.

  4. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE • In the New Testament St Luke records a saying by Jesus in a sermon. “Blessed are you poor” Luke 6:20

  5. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE Then there is the parable of the rich fool Luke 12:16-21 The land of a rich man brought forth plenty. He couldn’t decide what to do with all his wealth.

  10. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE They both die. Lazarus goes to heaven. But The rich man goes to Hell. Despite the fact that the rich man can see Lazarus in heaven. He cannot obtain help from him.

  11. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE Jesus said to a rich man “If you want to be perfect, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. The come follow me.” Matthew 19:21

  12. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE St Mark 10 Rich young ruler One day a rich young man came up to Jesus and asked. “What must I do to gain eternal life?”

  13. RICH AND POOR IN THE BIBLE Jesus suggested he should keep the commandments, but sell all that he had and follow him. Not what the rich ruler wanted to hear. He went away sorrowful because he was a man of great wealth.
