  12. 32Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. 5:1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma (Eph 4:32-5:2). 13. They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed (Titus 1:16). Mirror

  14. 23Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (content) that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord (Jer. 9:23-24). 15. 15“ . . . Did not your father (Josiah father of Jehoiakim) eat and drink And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. 16“He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; Then it was well. Is not that what it means to know Me?” Declares the Lord. 17“But your eyes and your heart Are intent only upon your own dishonest gain, And on shedding innocent blood And on practicing oppression and extortion” (Jer. 22:15-17). 19. Is “peace” an attribute of God? • Five times in the NT, God is called “the God of peace.” • In Romans 16:20, “the God of peace” is presented as the one who will deal with the core problem of dissensions. • Elsewhere this name emphasizes God as a reconciler (of men with God) by equipping them for holiness.

  20. Does God endorse lying? 18Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left. 19The Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said this while another said that. 20Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’ And the Lord said to him, ‘How?’ 21He said, ‘I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and prevail also. Go and do so’” (2 Chron. 18:18-21).

  21. Does God endorse lying? • God is not the author of evil. • But God presently allows evil to operate (while His patience gives every man an opportunity to respond). • God’s sovereignty extends over the operation of evil. • This should give us comfort – God is limiting what can be done. • Do not construe the fact that God allows something to happen as His endorsement of men’s relevant decisions.

  22. Can OT Gentiles be saved? • Salvation is always a matter of trusting in God to solve the sin problem. • After the cross, we know how God “pulled it off.” • But the basic core of our belief is the same as it is for men in the OT – we admit the inadequacy of “self-help” to solve the sin problem and throw ourselves (by faith) on the grace of God.

  23. Isn’t it arrogant to say… • “I Know God.” • The NT repeatedly describes believers as those who know God (Gal. 4:9; 1 John 2:14; 4:6 ) and distinguishes us from those who do not know God (1 Cor. 1:21; Gal. 4:8; 1 Thess. 4:5; 2 Thess. 1:8; Titus 1:16 ). • It is possible to know God truly even though we do not know Him completely

  24. Isn’t it arrogant to say… • But those who know God will demonstrate as much by listening to Scripture (1 John 4:6), by a profound life-style change (Gal. 4:8-9; 1 Thess. 4:5; Titus 1:16) and by their love for other believers (1 John 4:7). • We won’t need to convince anyone we “know God” when it’s obvious!
