  13. How can I increase my emotional readiness? Parents prepare children for independence by increasing their decision making as they age . You need to continue to make more significant decisions to increase your decision making skills. You should continue to communicate with people you are close to. Independence doesn’t mean ignoring the advice of people you trust. You need to be prepared to take risks and live with the consequences . Select your college ,program , buy a car , date, rent an apartment - everyone’s pathway is going to be unique .

  14. How is my emotional readiness? • Can I concentrate on personal tasks and decisions? • Can I deal with stress? • Am I aware of myself - my strengths and challenges? • Do I have control over my actions? • Am I fully responsible ? • Can I communicate with adults as an equal? • Am I ready to ask for help when needed? • Am I secure about my own identity?
