Some of the important considerations that you need to take into account include the body structure and height of the person along with the style of the tallit. Generally, there are two ways of wearing a tallit: Traditional Shawl A traditional tallit is made from wool, cotton, linen, or silk and is more prevalent in Orthodox communities and among prayer leaders. It is large in size, and worn by folding it over the shoulders, resulting in being widely draped with it. So if you are someone, who likes to feel the private space created by the tallit, a traditional tallit is the one that you should go for. This style uses more fabric and therefore will need larger sizes for the same size individual. The shawl style is worn with all four corners hanging in the front of the person wearing it. It is made using less material, and can be worn fully open over the shoulders, or folded into 2 and placed on the shoulders falling on the chest, like a tailored scarf. To know the exact size, it is always a good idea to try one of your old tallit or the one that belongs to a family member. It will give you an exact feeling of what tallit size and style will be good for you. 3.Find a Connection As per Jewish traditions, wearing an older relative’s tallit can strengthen the bond across generations. This is the reason why you’ll see some people wearing the tallit of an older family member such as a grandfather or great grandfather or even of an older relative.
