Introduction to the Digestive System

The digestive system is a vital process that breaks down large complex molecules into simpler ones. It consists of a long tube extending from the mouth to the anus, playing a crucial role in nutrient absorption and waste elimination. In humans and pigs, the digestive system features a simple stomach paired with an extensive intestinal tract. Ruminants possess a complex stomach structure but have a simpler intestinal system. Additionally, horses and rabbits exhibit a simple stomach, an extensive intestinal system, and an enlarged cecum that aids in digestion.
