  2. Background Information Seeing the problem first hand Before devising a plan of action of how to help these folks, first I went out on a trial mission to gather more information. I spoke to six different homeless people, each standing on a public corner of a busy street. The results I found after asking a them a few questions were nothing less than immoral and filled with deceit.

  3. Results I Found Interesting One man I talked to with a sign saying “Hungry, need change” was eating a from a fresh bag of baby carrots. When I asked him where he got it, he said he just bought it with the money he earned from kind people. I asked how I could help, and the universal answer was they needed money. One lady told me not to give money to anyone else because they were “pretending to be homeless, but she was for real” I asked their story of how they got to this spot and all the stories were filled with the same details. Every one of them have no family, no friends, was a veteran of war, and just lost a high paying job. When asked further questions, I was told that they were busy working right now and didn’t have time to be distracted!

My Proposed solution I am going to go to Cub Foods, Rainbow foods, and Super Targetand get multiple copies of their coupon books Stop by a corner with a box of free job postings and grab a few copies of that Assemble a Homeless Helper Book My brother, his wife, and myself will go out and try to find these folks.

  5. Results of the Solution My favorite part of this whole project was actually going out and seeing their reactions. It was cold outside, so it was a lot harder to find any of them. I guess when it gets cold, they get laid off. I found 2 people with signs, neither of which I talked with the week before. One man looked strangely at me but then said thank you. The other man asked me if I had any money to buy the groceries. Neither of them actually seemed interested. This solution seemed to have no impact on them.

  6. Agencies Trying to Help The Doe Fund's mission is to develop and implement cost-effective, holistic programs that meet the needs of a diverse population working to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and criminal recidivism. The Big Issue is an example of how the public can help people make their own way. Its message 'Working, not begging', is the approach that the charity is trying to make and the way it's getting people into work. There are tons of organizations that take donations of food, clothes, and miscellaneous items to help the homeless.

  7. Conclusions My overall conclusions from this project are pretty unsympathetic. To me, there is no reason to be begging. It is just an easy, tax-free way to make money. If these people were truly homeless, they would go to an organization for help, or find a job and make an honest living. But begging is just a simple way to get your bills paid. Seeing that it is developing online brings hope that hopefully these people will get off the street corners and at least go to the library and start begging on their computers.
