  2. Introduction/Backgound • Purpose: Investigate using eReaders as a source of acquiring and accessing classical literature and research materials. • E-Readers Analyzed: • Criteria Used: Cost, Weight/Size, Display Type, DRM File Handling, Internet and Other Features, Battery Life

  3. Cost • eBooks cost less than printed books • eBooks are more prevalent now in libraries and book stores

  4. Weight and Size

  5. Display Types eInk Book-like Readable in sunlight Black & white • Color • Readable in darkness • Newer technology

  6. eBooks and Public Libraries Instant access to library books through any computer with internet access. No late fees or lost books. Library eBooks can be highlighted and notated without damage to the library’s collection. Several library books can be stored on the device at once yet carried more easily than a backpack full of books.

  7. Additional Features • Dictionary, Wikipedia, and Google lookup for unfamiliar words and concepts. • Sync books across multiple devices so that each device has the reader on the last page that was read. • Store and read PDF files. • Enjoy company specific benefits.

  8. Battery Life • EInk devices can usually last much longer than color eReaders • Wi-fi antenna use shortens battery life for both devices • eInk readers only last 3 weeks with the wi-fi turned on • Color devices don’t use as much energy for reading as eInk readers • Color readers don’t have as much battery capacity as the eInk readers have

  9. Conclusion • The following is a summary of the aforementioned criteria

  10. Recommendation • Because of accessibility of brick and mortar Barnes & Noble stores at which to have the device serviced along with in-store perks, we recommend: • The Nook Simple Touch • We will be happy to answer any additional questions regarding the information disclosed in this report.
