The idea for an E-Book was first explored through the Gutenberg Project lead by Michael S. Heart in 1971. The development of the Internet in the 1990’s allowed for the creation of many online E-Book sources.

The Purpose of E-Readers • E-Readers allow people to keep a collection of E-Books on a lightweight portable device. • In today’s fast paced culture in the United State’s, E-readers are becoming more popular because of their ability consolidate the owners preferred readings into a device that is compatible with the business of everyday life. • Some of the advantages of using an E-Reader are the availability of books, portability and storage, language accessibility, cost, and security. • People who oppose the use of E-Readers site drawbacks like power and shelf life, durability, and digital rights management.

Functionality • Choose a new book or browse your favorites and read anywhere, even while waiting in line. • A backlit screen enables easy reading at night. • The diminishing dimensions of E-Readers make them easy to carry around anywhere. • The ability to resize fonts for easier reading. • The ability to print E-Books if traditional traditional print reading is desirable. • The ability to find books quickly and easily through a comprehensible search tool.
