  1. Self Reflection Collage Tessa Priovolos

  2. Scared Little Freshman.. • “I also like to read and write in my free time. If I have time I will finish a novel in a day, it used to drive my mom crazy when she’d have to drive me to the library every other day. I do not think I’m much of a writer, I tend to jumble my thoughts on paper and always have to edit my essays because there is too much rambling. The last semester of my senior year I took a senior composition class that really helped prepare me for college. I had an amazing teacher who motivated me and helped improve my essays greatly. Other than that I do not have much experience with writing besides classes that I have taken in the past.” (“This is Me..”, 2011) • The essays that I wrote this semester were a real eye opener to what college is really like. I struggled and had to do A LOT of editing, but I’ve really grown as a writer and I’ve learned how to get all my ideas out without rambling and repeating myself.

  3. WaLL-E .. TAKE 1 • Little did I know that just from watching the movie “Wall-E” I would learn all sorts of new things about the environment and ways that I could help make a difference. • “I am very excited to watch the rest of “Wall-E”. I think it will be a cute movie and that it will have a good moral at the end that we can all learn from. I hope that Wall-E will continue to be the sweet, charming robot throughout the whole movie and continue to be a curious, hardworking robot.” (“Beginning Wall-E”,2011)

  4. Narrative essay First Copy Revised Copy • “Three years ago I received the news that changed my life forever. It was the summer before my sophomore year in high school when my parents told me we would be moving to Greece. At first, I did not really believe them. I spent the whole summer living in denial. Every day was spent with my best friends and as the days went by I kept avoiding the situation. Before I knew it, August 22 rolled around and all of my life was packed away into two crates, ready to be shipped off across the ocean. …..” (“Greece Changing Me, Me Changing Greece..”, 2011) • “It was a Saturday night. There was a soothing breeze coming from the open window, I could hear the cars passing by and the stray cats purring outside rummaging around the city of Athens. My mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner, but I couldn’t even tell you what she was making. My eyes were watering as I looked at the computer screen, my stomach clenching as my finger kept pressing the mouse button, looking at picture after picture. There in front of me was the life I was supposed to be living, the life I had had to leave against my own my own wishes.” (“Greece Changing Me, Me Changing Greece..” 2011)

  5. Crazy proposals • We read a lot of different things in class this semester, but Johnatahn Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” was the craziest essay I’ve ever read. • “This week in class we read Johnathan Swift’s, “A Modest Proposal”. I don’t think I’ve ever thought so deeply about a piece I’ve had to read for school. It was a completely crazy, unrealistic, and disgusting proposal. Selling children born to poverty for everyone to eat? Who even thinks of that?” (“A Not So Modest Proposal..”, 2011)

  6. Taco BELL OR DOG FOOD? • “On Wednesday, when we were talking about all the different fast food chains and why it’s better to shop at a farmer’s market and from local farmers, I was completely shocked. Don’t get me wrong, I know how unhealthy fast food is and that its all processed and gross, but when Emma told us about what they do to the meat at Taco Bell I was so surprised” (“Dog Food or Tacos?”,2011) • I’m really glad that Emma told us about this and that we had a lengthy discussion about fast food and farmer’s markets in class. I haven’t had any Taco Bell since that day and have been telling everyone I know all about it.

  7. X-FILES • “The Eco-terrorism episode of the “X-Files, claims that the destruction human beings are doing to the environment is causing things that are out of our control to happen.” (“X-Files and our Environment”,2011) • This semester I learned how to make a clear claim to an analysis essay and how to support it. In high school I would never have been able to make such a concise claim, but now I know how.

  8. Opening my eyes • “The landfills in Greece are all slowly becoming over filled and closed down, that was part of the reason that the garbage men went on strike. What is going to happen when there are no land fills left? Is the garbage just going to be dumped in the sea?” (“Walking Through Garbage”,2011) • This semester made me think outside of the box. I am more aware of the issues on global warming and what might happen to Earth if we don’t step up our game.

  9. EAARTH • Reading the book “Eaarth” has made a huge impact on me. I now think before doing things and ask myself if this could hurt the environment. I want to be more helpful in saving our planet and I’m spreading the word to everyone I know!
