  10. Recess and Lunch There are 3 lunch and recess periods daily. 10:40-11:25 11:30-12:15 12:20-1:05 Some classes will have recess before lunch and some classes will have recess after lunch. All Full Day Kindergarten classes and 5 Day Preschool classes eat lunch in the cafeteria. 4 Day Extended Day classes have lunch in their classrooms. Grade levels are integrated for lunch. Grades 1-3 have recess on the large playground. PK/K have recess on the fenced-in pirate ship playground.

An introduction to your child’s lunch experience: • Every child is assigned a 4 digit Pin number which they use to purchase lunch. • Your child’s teacher will provide the Pin number to each student on the first day of school. • Your child will enter their 4 digit Pin number into an easy to use Pin Pad at the cash register. • This pin number can always be found in the online Aspen Family Portal and is identified as the POS Pin • This number will remain the same as long as your child is a student in the Newburyport Public School system

Free/Reduced Lunch Program • National School Lunch Program • Applications will be sent home with your child on the first day of school or can be found at anytime on the district website. • Program is income based and can be applied for anytime during the school year if circumstances change. • If you receive a letter prior to the start of the school year indicating you qualify for free lunch you do NOT need to fill out an application. • Contact Food Services Department with any questions.

  22. The Big Yellow School Bus Salter Transportation: 978.462.6433 Lee Lamkin, Director of Transportation Bus passes are in the process of being mailed home. AM ROUTES PM ROUTES All Kindergarten students must be picked up from their bus stop by a parent/guardian/or adult designee who must show the parent/guardian pass to the bus driver on a daily basis.

Arrival 8:05-8:20 AM – Kindergarten – Grade 3 Bussers • All buses arrive at the front of the building at Door # 1 (High St. Entrance) • Each bus is assigned a Bus Leader- a teacher who lead the effort in improving bus behavior and build community among bus riders. • Bus Leaders will board the bus when it arrives at school each morning. • Bus Leaders will greet children, review expectations for entering the school, and check in with the bus driver. • Students will enter the building at Door #1 by the Grades 1-3 Office. Kindergarten students will proceed to the gymnasium to meet their teachers and line up by class the first few weeks of school. Grades 1-3 students will proceed to their classrooms using the stairwell next to the gymnasium. • Please have children ride the bus the 1st day of school to get used to the routine.

Arrival 8:05-8:20 AM – Kindergarten – Grade 3 Walkers • Walkers (students literally walking or biking to school) should enter the school at the front door #1. • Kindergarten students will proceed to the gymnasium to meet their teachers and line up by class the first few weeks of school. • Grades 1-3 students will proceed to their classrooms using the stairwell next to the gymnasium. • Bike racks are located at the side of the school near Door #2 and in the back of the school behind the playground.

Arrival 8:05-8:20 AM –Kindergarten – Grade 3 Riders • Students who are driven to school by a parent are RIDERS. • Drop off is on the side entrance of the school accessible only by North Atkinson St. • Please enter the driveway and proceed to the side of the building. • Take a left at the last entrance to enter the drop-off queue. • Once in the drop-off area (alongside the sidewalk at the side entrance of the school), pull all the way forward towards Murphy Ave so that cars can be stacked the full length of the sidewalk. • Students dropped off in the queue should be able to independently exit from the vehicle. • Students may only exit on the passenger side. • Once in the queue, you must wait for a staff member standing close to the Murphy Ave. exit to signal that cars may exit. • There are barriers preventing cars from trying to circumvent cars in front of them in the queue. Please remain in the drop-off lane at all times. • To exit, please proceed straight to Murphy Ave. to take a RIGHT only on Low St. OR • Take a left at the end of the queue and proceed around the back of the parking lot to exit back onto North Atkinson St. Only a RIGHT turn will be allowed onto North Atkinson St.

Door 3 2nd Floor Door 2 1st Floor Riders Entering the School Door 4 3rd Floor Students should enter the school at the designated door for their floor: • Door 2: 1st floor students (closest to the offices.) • Door 3: 2nd floor students (middle door) • Door 4: 3rd floor students (closest to Murphy Ave.) All staff members are on duty in the morning and stationed at designated areas (crosswalks, entrances, stairwells, corridors, etc.) to greet students and supervise arrival. We will also have a transition team available to help students to their classrooms during the first few days of school. All kindergarten and grade 1 students will wear their name tags given to you during the Meet and Greets . All kindergarten students will be escorted to the gym upon arrival where kindergarten teachers will be waiting for them. Entrance doors are blue

Preschool Arrival- 8:30 a.m. & 12:15 p.m. To park- enter at 2nd/middle entrance to lot • There is no drop-off area or queue for preschool-aged students. • All preschool students arriving by car must park in the main parking lot (North Atkinson side entrance). • Please enter the parking lot at the second entrance. • The 1st row of parking spots will be designated as visitor spots for parents. There is no parking for visitors in the driveway area. These spots are assigned to teachers. • Please escort your child across the crosswalk to • Door #2 Miss Sue AM/Miss Samantha • Door #3 Miss Karen & Miss Jessica, Miss Sue PM • Door #4 Miss Giovanna & Miss Tanasi • A teacher will meet your child at their designated door. Dismissal: Kindergarten – Grade 3: 2:50 p.m. Bussers, Boys/Girls Club, Y Afterschool Program • Kindergarten bussers will be escorted to the gymnasium and greeted by their bus leader who will escort them to the bus. • Grades 1-3 Bussers and Boys/Girls Club to Door #1 • Y Afterschool to the cafeteria

Dismissal: Kindergarten – Grade 3: 2:50 p.m. Riders • All students picked up by a car will be dismissed through the side entrances. • Every student will be assigned a pick up door: Door #2 (closest to offices) All kindergarteners and any 1st, 2nd or 3rd grader with a kindergarten sibling Door #3 (Middle Door) All 1st and 2nd graders with no younger siblings and 3rd graders with a sibling in 1st or 2nd grade but not kindergarten. Door #4 (Murphy Ave) All 3rd graders with no younger siblings Once your child is assigned a door, this will be their default door all year even if there dismissal may change on a given day.

  30. Riders continued… • Please follow the same procedure as the morning. • Enter from North Atkinson St., proceed up the driveway and enter into the queue for pick-up at the curb alongside the side entrance. • Display your placard with your last name which will be given to you at the Meet and Greets on August 30th. • Placards will be color-coded by what door your child(ren) are assigned to in order to expedite the pick-up process. Door 2=Yellow Door 3=Pink Door 4 = Blue • Please pull all the way up in the queue so that we can fit as many cars as possible. • Please roll down your window and tell a teacher who you are here to pick up. • Teachers will call students via walkie-talkies from their pick up doors. • Please be patient we will be taking attendance and checking off each student as they are picked up to ensure they are being dismissed to the correct person. • Wait until a staff member closest to Murphy Ave. signals for your car to exit. • Remember right turns only from Murphy Ave. onto Low St. and from the driveway to North Atkinson St.

  31. Walker Dismissal-Kindergarten- Grade 3: 2:50 p.m. • Walkers will be dismissed through Door #1 at the front of the building. • Parents escorting their children should wait for them on the ramp by the flagpole. Please refrain from waiting for your child directly in front of Door #1. A staff member will check off students as they are dismissed to parents. • Walkers can walk down the driveway towards North Atkinson St. or out the front of the school towards High St. • A walker is considered a student who is physically walking home from school and not being picked up in a car. • Please do not park on the abutting streets and attempt to pick up a walker. This will cause great dissention with our neighbors and abutters. If you are picking up in a vehicle, your child is considered a rider and you must drive onto school property and either enter the pick-up queue or park in a visitor parking space to dismiss your child.

  32. Preschool and Half Day AM K Dismissal11:15 a.m. (PK) 11:30 AM (K), 1:00 pm (PK), 3:00 pm (PK) To park- enter at 2nd/middle entrance to lot • Bussers will be dismissed at their departure time from Door #1 at the front of the building. • Riders and Walkers will be dismissed at their departure time from the side of the building. If you are picking up your child in a vehicle, please park your car in the front row in the parking lot and walk to your assigned door to sign out your child.   36. Opening Schedule • Preschool and Kindergarten Parent and Student Visitation Day: Thursday, August 30th • Preschool and Kindergarten students and their parents are invited for a special visit. On this day you will be able to meet your child’s teacher for the first time, explore the classroom, and learn about basic classroom and first-day procedures. • 8:30-9:00: 4 Day AM and 4 Day Extended Preschool Programs • 9:00-9:30: 4 Day PM, 5 Day Extended and 5 Day Full Day Preschool Programs • 10:00-10:45: Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Gershuny, Mrs. O’Malley, and Mrs. Beeler’s Kindergarten Classes • 11:15-12:00: Mrs. Bouchard, Mrs. Duguie, Mrs. Herzig and Mrs. Ouellette’s Classes • First day of school for Kindergarten and Preschool students: Tuesday, September 4th
