Fast Facts for New 6th Graders (cont) • Backpacks/Book Bags • Stored in hall locker • Cell phone restrictions • Must be stored in hall locker • Used based on permission from classroom teacher. • Assignment/Passbook • One supplied for each student • Student required to carry at all times • Contains school policies, calendar, space to record assignments, hall pass • Orientations for Incoming 6th Graders - August 21, 2014 student orientation beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dance from 7:30-9:00 p.m.
The First Day of Middle School • Arrival – greeted by faculty hall monitors throughout the building who will direct students to correct hallways and appropriate homeroom. • Homeroom – Extended homeroom first three days for all students. • Abbreviated schedule – students will follow their individual schedules on a shortened basis for the remainder of the school day. • Passing between classes – West uses a “bell-less” system. Students will be directed to their next classroom location by the teacher of the class they are leaving. Classroom locations will be in close proximity to each other allowing students ample time to reach their next classroom. There will be designated times during each school day for the students to access their hall lockers.
The First Day of Middle School (cont) • Materials needed on first day – pens, pencils. Will receive team letter during the summer. • Lunch on the first day – punch code same number as last year. Debit system carryover money available from student’s elementary building. • Buses – Arrive and depart in timely manner. Students are required to go directly from the bus into the Cafeteria upon arrival. Students are expected to make a quick stop at their hall lockers at the end of the day and go immediately to their buses which generally depart beginning at 2:50 p.m. • Parent drop off - is the in the front of the building large circle. Pick up is in the front in the small circle.
1:1 Chrome Book • 2014-15 Initiative • Students will not receive these until the second or third week of school. • Will have class time to spend on proper use and care. • Pick up in homeroom drop back off at the end of the day. • Will be allowed to sign one out for the evening.
