Faculty on the Move • Once a week, Mrs. Bowling leads a fitness class after school so the faculty can “sharpen their saw” and unwind from the day. • We took a break during track season, but plan to pick it back up in May.
There are many ways to get the kids active. In the picture below, the students are going to different stations, exercising, and then recording the benefit of exercise. That’s what we call learning on the move!
Students created dances using manipulatives and taught them to the class. 32 counts using 5 different movements.
We like to use circuit workouts in Pe so the students learn a variety of exercises and elevate their heart rate. I use it to teach the health related components of fitness, the skill related components of fitness, and the FITT principle.
Students create weight lifting goals and try to achieve them during the 9 weeks. They all work so hard when they create their own goals!
Cardio Flag tag to warm up and discuss cardiovascular endurance
Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County is always speaking with the students to help them see the side effects of using drugs. This day, they came to talk to all of the 6th and 7th grade students and show them the effects. They brought a special guest, who is a recovering addict. It was very powerful for the students.
Jump bands are used to teach rhythms and movements for the dance standards. It is the national dance of the Philippines and our students love to do it. The 6th grade learns the jumps, and the 7th grade creates their own sequence. The 8th grade creates their own line dance and teaches it to the class.
STLP groups chose to tackle nutrition and fitness issues in our school. As seen in the pictures, they are instructing the students on healthy choices, and leading them in exercises.
The students did a videoconference with a forensics guy. They extracted DNA from a strawberry. COOL!
