  2. Assignment 3: Non-Objective Shape & Space | Realistic to Abstract Create a non-objectivedesign composed only of black and white shapes based on the realisticobject you abstracted and designed in lines for Assignment 2 | Lines.

  3. Media & Support: Paper: index paper with 6” x 6” field, 2” x 2” thumbnail sketches. Media: pencil, scissors, rubber cement, kneaded eraser, art gum eraser, brush, black paint, compressed charcoal, computer. Final Sizes: • One set of twelve 2” x 2” thumbnails with design sketches. • One final design with charcoal on white paper with 6” x 6” field with neatly drawn borders. • One final design with black paint on white paper with 6” x 6” field with neatly drawn borders. • One final design with black paper on white paper with 6” x 6” field with neatly drawn borders.

  4. Work: Thumbnails • Reproduce your Assignment 2 | Line Final on the first field of a set of twelve 2” x 2” thumbnails using pencil. • Develop and adjust the design for shapes & space still using a pencil. • Shapes & Space should be interesting, • Shape/Space relationship should be interesting. • Once you have the design you like, develop it using charcoal, black paint and black paper collage. • Use more than one set of thumbnails if necessary.

Work: Final • Develop the best thumbnails on a 6” x 6” field with neatly drawn borders where the shapes are black or white. • You need to reproduce three final 6” x 6” designs: • one with charcoal • one with black paint • one with black paper • Remember that craftsmanship is important and you must use three different media.
