The Rise of Islam: From Submission to Global Influence in the Late Middle Ages

In the Late Middle Ages, Islam emerged as a dominant force, rooted in the concept of "submission to God" as taught by Mohammed, who founded the religion in 622 AD. Followers adhere to five main duties, including daily prayers, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca. As Islamic armies expanded, they conquered significant territories, including much of the Eastern Empire, Palestine, Syria, North Africa, and parts of Spain. The competing claims to the Holy Land by Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths continue to fuel conflicts today.
