WHAT YOU NEED • COURSE CATALOG (LEAVE THE CATALOGS HERE) • PEN (LEAVE PENS HERE) • FORMS – 11X17 SELECTIONS FORMS (top COPY STAYS WITH COUNSELOR, yellow COPY GOES HOME -LONG FORM THAT NEEDS PARENT SIGNATURE AND TEACHER SIGNATURES), AND SHEET WITH COURSE ABBREVIATIONS –GOES HOME • Copy of your transcript –shows the classes/credits you have completed or have in progress (you may keep) NO PHONES NO BACKPACKS

  6. Four Year Plan – Core Courses and Spanish

  7. Course sequencingtake courses in the correct order • English 1, then English 2, then English 3, then English 4 • Algebra 1, then geometry (if you do not pass alg EOC then Math models and then geometry), then Algebra 2, then precalculus or another advanced math • Biology, then chemistry (if you do not pass Bio Eoc then ipc, then chemistry), then physics or another advanced science • World geography, then world history, then us history, then government And economicsNOTE: based on your Staareoc performance, you may be placed in courses designed to help you be successful on these exams.

Arts and humanities multidisciplinary studies endorsements • Arts and humanities (at SHS): in addition to your core and required courses, you must complete four levels of Spanish or four courses from no more than two fine arts disciplines (theater, art, choir, band, dance, mariachi, etc.) • Multidisciplinary studies (at shs): 4 X 4 –four English, four math to include alg 2, four science to include chemistry and/or physics, four social studies or four advance courses from one endorsement area or among endorsement areas that are not in a coherent sequence

  14. Deadlines!!!! If you miss deadlines, you miss opportunities to make choices Parent signature required also 11X17 course selection card deadline is Fri., Feb. 15

Deadlines----continued • Course sheet turned in to your Social studies teacher (world history, us history, world geography) • Deadline to obtain signatures: Parent and teachers is Friday, February 15 • Deadline to change your mind is Monday, may 20th!!!!! These deadlines are not a suggestion, they are mandatory! Do not miss the deadlines

  16. resources • Teachers – best resource you have !!! They can advise you as to the next course you should be taking, especially in the CTE/Endorsement area courses • Counselors – come by before school, during lunch, or afterschool to the counseling offices and we will gladly assist you with course selection • Course catalogs – online, in counseling center, and in social studies classrooms – they have course descriptions and whether or not you need teacher approval to take the course

  17. Wrapping up • When you are done selecting your courses, tear the top copy of the 11X17 course selection sheet off. Leave the top copy with us (counselors) • Leave the course catalogs here in library. Your social studies teacher will be given some for you to use during the next week and there will be copies in the counseling center. • Leave the pens here for next group. • Get signatures…teachers, parents, etc. We can not put you in classes that require teacher approval, or have auditions, or have applications, or have prerequisites without signatures • Remember the deadlines…sheets to social studies teacher by next Friday, feb. 15th No changing your mind after Monday, may20th!
