  5. Fisherman Mike Labat releases his catch of crabs on May 1 because of the oil spill. On May 19, a 46,000-square-mile stretch of the Gulf of Mexico was off-limits to fishing, about 19 percent of the Gulf. By June, 33% of the Gulf was closed to fishing.

  6. The impact may be seen for years.
