    10. 10 John J. McKetta ProjectConnect Grants Supports outreach efforts to students, recent graduates and new engineers. Typically single-event programs Grants awarded quarterly – Apr, Jul, Oct, Jan Eligibility is one ProjectConnect grant every 12 months Maximum grant amount increased to $600 Applications are available from the AIChE website www.aiche.org - Local Sections - Resources for Local Section Leaders - Grants

    13. Revival of AIChE Program Planning Grants Presented By: Peter Sibilski, P.E., FAIChE Past Chair, Local Sections Committee

    14. 14 Program Planning Grants What are the Program Planning Grants? Initiated in 1997 to help Local Sections with their yearly programming Supports outreach efforts to broader Section membership Aids Local Sections in holding activities they otherwise might avoid due to financial considerations Encourages innovative & interactive programs

    15. 15 Program Planning Grants What’s available? Grants will be available in three denominations: $1,000, $500, and $250 Grants will be awarded twice a calendar year Total grant amount available in any year is determined by AIChE Board of Directors To obtain a grant: Have to apply Spend the money Tell us how the event turned out in a summary activity report submitted to the LSC

    16. 16 Program Planning Grants Application & Award Timing: For 2008 only – Apply by September 30th – awarded by October 31st For 2009 and beyond: Apply by March 31st – awarded by April 30th Apply by September 30th – awarded by October 31st Eligibility is one grant every 12 months Applications are available from the AIChE website www.aiche.org - Local Sections - Resources for Local Section Leaders - Grants Applications are also available at this meeting

    18. 18 Volunteer Recognition Awards What are the Volunteer Recognition Awards? Initiated in 2007 to recognize AIChE volunteers nation wide for their tireless efforts Support volunteers in attending national AIChE meetings throughout the year Aid Local Sections in helping their volunteers to continue to volunteer Recognize those that go above and beyond in their service to AIChE

    19. 19 Volunteer Recognition Awards What’s available in 2008? There are: 2 – $1,000 awards Total – $2,000 in Free Money!!! Free Admission to the Annual or Spring Meeting Award Obligation Have to apply Attend a national meeting (Annual or Spring) Submit travel expenses to national for reimbursement

    24. 24 YPAB activities New Horizons program at 2008 AIChE Spring meeting in New Orleans Formally recognized by EBPC as a programming entity Brian Daly, Cheryl Teich and Ramesh Rameswaran are leading Topics so far: Process and Design Safety, Distillation Operations and common failures, Heat Exchanger operation and design, Engineering Ethics, Refinery Overview. Looking for presenter on topic of rotating equipment Looking for more local AIChE members to assist with program

    26. 26 Thailand Local Section Formed AIChE Thailand Club officially established in 2003 LS Chair: Dr. Pomthong Malakul, Petroleum & Petrochemical College Will receive Local Sections status shortly Meetings and Programs Hold club meetings every 2-3 months at the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University Dinner meetings with invited speakers from all over the world (USA, Canada, Japan, Thailand) In 2006 the section set up a program to send 3 Chemical Engineering undergraduate students to U. of Regina (Canada)

    27. 27 Thailand Local Section Formed, cont’d Fundraising Events AIChE Golf Tournament Bowling Tournament with Thailand Institute of Chemical Engineers (TIChE) for fund raising Currently 12 members and growing…………

    28. 28 Organizing a Local Section First, make certain that a local section does not already exist in the area. Then, Establish a committee Organize a group of interested members in your area to help share the work of forming a new local section. Determine boundaries Identify the counties the new section would like to include. Boundaries within a 50-mile radius are suggested. Solicit membership Contact the Volunteer & Membership Activities Department for a list of names and addresses of AIChE members within the defined boundaries.

    29. 29 Organizing a Local Section, cont’d Obtain company support/sponsorship Many area industries are eager to see AIChE local sections started, and are willing to offer financial support or help with publicity. Utilize the resources available from AIChE – “Guide for Organizing a Local Section” – a downloadable booklet available from: http://www.aiche.org/LocalSections/StartSection/index.aspx

Please share your ideas via the local sections discussion forum located in the member center at www.aiche.org

    33. 33 Leadership Development Conference Update No Separate Leadership Development Conference in 2008; however, “LDC Lite” Program is being developed with the intent of it being held at the Centennial Celebration Formal Leadership Development Conference returns in 2009 Host applications will be sent after Spring Meeting Many LS have shown interest Seeking more financial support from AIChE

    34. 34 Leadership Development Conference Update, cont’d “LDC Lite” Program under development – working topics currently include: “You are not alone” Discussion of challenges and best-practices shared by all Sections “Resources for Local Sections” Discussion of what’s available from AIChE, (templates, grants, speaker’s directory, etc.) “Benefits of AIChE and attending local section meetings”

    35. Ambassador’s Program Update Presented By: Lowell Aplebaum Volunteer and Membership Activities Liaison

    36. 36 New and Improved Ambassador’s Program Purpose: To offer to every student chapter of AIChE a professional in the field who will come to their chapter and speak about the benefits of membership as well as on a mutually agreed upon topic of professional interest.

    37. 37 New and Improved Ambassador’s Program Ambassador visits are commencing at 55 student chapters nationwide Over 150 professional AIChE members have volunteered to be an Ambassador Wherever possible, Ambassador and student chapters were matched locally to provide a stronger connection to the Local Section

    38. 38 New and Improved Ambassador’s Program Ambassador presents on an agreed upon topic of interest, as well as on the benefits of affiliation with AIChE Evaluation by the chapter and the Ambassador happens soon after visit Ambassadors will be recognized at the Annual Student Conference

    39. 39 New and Improved Ambassador’s Program Goal is to expand to at least 70 chapters next year Possibility of greater involvement of Young Professionals/Recent Grads as future Ambassadors

    41. 41 New Student Member Initiative (ScaleUp) provides free membership to undergraduate students funded by generous corporate sponsorships Student Membership has increased by 3,000 students in the first 6 months of the program

    42. 42 Sponsors receive greater interactions with students at career fairs and chapter visits, as well as national recognition in AIChE events
