  2. Gases are formed when a liquid evaporates. The particles in a gas have enough energy to spread very far apart. When this happens, it is called diffusion.

  3. Gas is the most common form of matter. Gas takes up any space that is not filled with a solid or a liquid. Solids are formed when a liquid is cooled. The liquid hardens and forms a solid.

  5. Solids are changed by heat. When a solid is heated, the particles gain energy, allowing them to spread out. During a chemical reaction energy is not absorbed or given off. Chemical reactions need a certain amount of energy to set them off. Chemical reactions happen when the atoms in one substance break away from each other and mix with the atoms of another substance.
