  3. There IS a stem change in the preterite for ~ir verbs…. Here are the rules! Preterit ~ir ending verbs keep their stem changes ONLY in the él, ella, Usted form (3rd person singular) and the ellos, ellas, Ustedes form (3rd person plural). The stem changes are different in the preterite. O  U and E  I
