Helping UF Chinese Students Overcome Language Barriers in Florida Traffic Rules

The "TrafficAnnotation" Applet aims to assist new Chinese students at the University of Florida in mastering traffic rules effectively. In a user study involving 34 participants, we examined two groups of students as they engaged with traffic rule content using the applet and a PDF handbook. Both groups learned the material, took surveys, and completed post-tests. While our findings reveal that using Chinese annotations significantly aids comprehension, there were no notable differences in learning time or exam preparedness between the groups. Feedback indicates participants had a positive response to the TrafficAnnotation tool.
