Khmer Rouge • Communist party of Cambodia • Lead by Pol Pot • Recently Dissolved in 1999 • Killed anyone labeled “Enemy of the state.” I.E. Anyone with connections to former government, Anyone educated, Ethnic Minorities, “Economic Saboteurs” (Those with the lack of skill or ability to do agricultural work) • Death toll 740K-3Million Pol Pot: • Born “SalothSar” • Born may 19, 1925 • Died April 15 1998, a year before Khmer Rouge was Dissolved • Leader of Khmer Rouge • Khmer Rouge surrendered him to America, he then died of “Heart Failure,” though no-one was able to get a good look at the body before it was cremated, so some believe it was suicide. The Khmer Rouge, or Red Khmers were part of the VPA, or Vietnam People’s Army from North Vietnam. The country controlled by the Khmer Rouge was called “Democratic Kampuchea” Was on the side of the Viet Cong
Kent State Shootings On May 4, 1970, Kent State University guardsmen shot and killed 4 students, and seriously wounded nine, in under 15 seconds Students who were shot were either protesting the “Cambodian Campaign,” or even just looking at it from a distance
Mai Lai Massacre It was the Mass killings of 504 unarmed Vietnamese Citizens. Committed by the U.S. Army soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 20th infantry regiment. Victims included Men, Women, Children, and Babies. Some of the women were gang raped and then mutilated by U.S. Soldiers U.S. Service men who tried to stop the massacre were shunned and called traitors.
