Workshop OverviewAcademic Foundations Department Math Area • New Pearson Textbooks for Fall DEV 085 • Basic College Mathematics, Eighth Edition, Lial, Salzman, Hestwood DEV 108 • Beginning Algebra, Seventh Edition, Tobey, Slater • MML Notes Pages Changes • Revision during Spring and Summer • MyMathLab-based Content Changes • Correlated with new textbook changes

  3. Textbook ChangesAcademic Foundations Department Math Area • 108 text:new features include a Quick Quiz at the end of each problem section. The quiz has 3 problems that covers all of the essential content of that section. • At the end of the Quick Quiz there is a Concept Check question, which stresses mastery of the section’s concepts • In the Instructor’s Edition, there is a Classroom Quiz that can be used to assess the students’ level of understanding of that section’s concepts Link to example from new text Section 1.1 page 78

Textbook ChangesAcademic Foundations Department Math Area • 085 text: Table of Contents remains the same but with new features: • Exercises have been updated to reflect current data and practices • Summary Exercises within chapter and at the end of a chapter • Pointers added to examples (Link to Pointers example: oldnew ) • Math in the Media activity • Solutions to Selected Exercises added at end of book • 13 Study Skills activities throughout the text • Chapter Test Prep Video CD included in student text Link to Table of Contents first page

MyMathLab Notes PagesAcademic Foundations Department Math Area • DEV 085 and 108 Notes Pages for MML-based classes and Distance Learning are currently being updated as per textbook exercise and pagination changes due to minor formatting adjustments in the new texts • Revision will be completed by August in time for duplicating orders and stocking in labs

MyMathLab ContentAcademic Foundations Department Math Area Adopting New Version of the Text for Computer-enhanced sections • In-class sections – contact Course Coordinator for Master Shell Course ID or copy your own course* from previous term and convert • Link to directions for converting old courses to new (Brian) • Distance sections – Course Coordinator contacts DL instructors with Course ID for new Master Course * Will NOT have revised Notes Pages!
