More facts HemsöFästning was built during the First World War for the Defense of Ångermanälven mouth. Hemsö Fästning is located on the 140 meter tall Storråberget with panoramic views over the sea, islands and coast. In the fortress there are a kitchen, dining room, exhibition, dormitories and washrooms. This is the entry of the fortress
Facts about Hemsön The island has a resident population but also holds summer cottage areas and camping. Sågsand is a popular sandy beach, with a couple of disused bunkers and trenches in the vicinity. Hemsön has a ferry for car traffic, which runs every half hour from Sanna berth.
