The PVC Catastrophe

The PVC Catastrophe Team aims to demonstrate wind energy's potential by constructing an affordable windmill, using standard materials not exceeding $40. Our windmill generates electricity by spinning magnets inside copper coils and has a foundation made of PVC piping. The two-pronged propeller serves as blades to capture the wind. Our calculations show the setup can produce approximately 1.72 watts of power, proving that wind power can be an accessible and economical energy source. Join us on this innovative project!

  1. By: Steven Beaton, Josh Bergenback, Cameron Janz, Matt Lane The PVC Catastrophe

  2. Team Picture

  3. The Goal • The goal of our windmill is to generate enough electricity in order to power a light bulb using wind energy. • The windmill is to be built using ordinary materials, the cost of which cannot exceed 40 dollars.

  4. Description • Our windmill generates electricity by spinning magnets inside copper coils. • The foundation of our windmill is made out of PVC piping. • The blades to catch the wind is a two-pronged propeller

  5. The PVC Catastrophe

  6. Calculations P = (1/2) x p x A x v^3 p = 1.1225 kg/m^3 A = .3429 m^2 v = 8.94 m/s P = 1.72 watts

  7. Conclusions • Coiling is no fun. • Wind power is a cheap, easy form of power.
