  7. Eternal Covenant of God • Eternal Covenant and the Eternal Purpose of God. • Kingship of God the Son is from everlasting to everlasting (Heb. 1:8-9) King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev. 17:14; 19:16) • Eternal kingdom (Heb. 1:8-9; 2 Pet. 1:11). Biblical Kingdom of God refers to the Entire Realm/Domain, Rule/Order/Regulation and Reign/Supreme Control of God. However, the Kingdom of God works/operates on three different levels and/or dimensions: (I) the Eternal Kingdom of God; (II) the Universal Kingdom of God or the kingdom of heavens; and (III) the Millennial Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. Eternal sovereignty to fulfill the eternal purpose of God includes the eternal and temporal world. • The only collective works of the three Persons of the TRINITY is their covenanting together (Heb.1:5-6; 13:20; 9:14; Gen.1:26; 11:7), that it is God the Son ALONE who is the DIRECT DOER/ACCOMPLISHER of the works of creating-making, ordering-organizing, providing for-provisioning, preserving-keeping, judging-classifying, redeeming-saving and consummating-finalizing all of creation. God the Father has purposed it to be so (Eph.3:11) and God the Holy Spirit confirmed that it is so (Jn.16:7-15). • Creation and existence of whole of universe is contingent upon the grace of God the Son with man as the acme of His creation (Gen. 1:27; 2:7Jn. 1:3; Col. 1:15-16)

  8. Lord’s Order and Free-will of Man • Lord God’s Order (Gen. 1:28-29; 2:15–17). Adam is to manage as head of creation under the kingship and order of God the Son: • Be fruitful and multiply; have dominion over every living thing; eat every fruit except that of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; • “For of the day thou shalt eat thereof, you shall surely die.” • Adam exercise of his reasoned conscious self-determination or free-will or self-commitment went against the Lord’s order. • Curse of death due to sin, disobedience of Adam, entered the world and passed upon all men for Adam is the appointed head of creation (Rom. 3:23; 5:12; 7:19, 22-23).

  9. Man’s Problem of Sin God’s Plan of Redemption • The First Declaration of the Gospel (Gen. 3:15)-the promise of a Messiah that is to come. • The seed of the woman (seed-zera, the child that is to come from the woman will come without the concurrence of man, without a human father, born of a virgin, the Messiah who will fulfill the eternally covenanted salvation of the world) shall bruise the head (total and final destruction) of the serpent and the serpent will bruise the heelof the seed of the woman (signifying the Messiah will be wounded but not totally destroyed); • Jesus Christ died (heel is bruised) to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself to destroy satan, the devil, the old serpent, once and for all who had the power of death. Thus, the Christ bruised satan’shead, totally and finally destroys his power and lordship over mankind, redeeming and reconciling man unto God from the power of Satan; • The Messiah will rise from the dead to live and reign forevermore unto eternity.

  10. The Promised Messiah-the Last Adam, the Second Man (1 Cor. 15:44-49; Heb. 10:5-7)

  11. Adam and Christ

  12. What Is Sin? • First aspect: For all have sinned (missing the mark) and come short (hindinaabotnapamantayan) of the glory (nahayagnakaluwalhatiankagalingan) of God. We have been found wanting. • Glory and wrath of God revealed from heaven • Knew God but glorified Him not as God, neither thankful, became vain in their imaginations, their foolish hearts were darkened • Professing to be wise, they became fools (Ps. 14:1; 53:1) • Changed the glory of the incorruptible God into corruptible creatures. • Only God is incorruptible, we are corruptible; only God is perfect, we are not perfect: only God is infinite, we are finite, limited; only God is infallible, we are fallible. • We all have been infected by sin, we are fallible (Prov. 14:12; 16:25) and know only in part (1 Cor. 13:12) and we cannot attain perfection by ourselves (Phil. 3:12) for we can do nothing without Jesus. (Jn. 15:6; Phil. 4:13) our perfection. • Angkilalanin mong Dios ay iyong may kapangyarihangwalanghanggan. Kapagdinidiosmoang may hanggangkapangyarihan, hindikanakaabotsakaluwalhatianngwalanghanggangkapangyarihanngtutuong Dios. You have come short of the glory of God. Our perfection is Jesus Christ. (Col. 1:28)

  13. What Is Sin? Second aspect: 1 Jn. 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. • Jas. 4:12 - One lawgiver- able to save and to destroy • Jesus is the lawgiver, the I Am who gave the law to Moses (Exo. 3: 14, 20:1:17; Jn. 8:58) • Two sets of law: law of the Spirit of life (katabolism, building up of cells) in Christ Jesus and the law of sin and death (anabolism, death reigning in our bodies by destruction of cells due to sin) (Rom. 8:1-2) • Sin by commission (paglabagsakautusan). 1 Jn. 3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Thou shalt not – hurt yourselves; thou shalt – help yourselves. If you do the thou shalt not, you are hurting yourself (cf. Paul). If you do not the thou shalt, you are not helping yourself of the blessings of the Lord but but you are also hurting yourself (cf. Samson) • Sin by omission. Jas 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. May dapatgawinna tama at mayroon din malinahindigawin. (Rom. 7:19) • Anoang tama?(Christian’s liberty vs. responsibility) Anomannamatuwid (lawful), nararapat(expedient) at nagpapatibay (edify). (1 Cor. 10:23; 6:12) Sa lahatngito, dapatmagpasiyana may pagkabatid, nagtitiwala at nanalanginsaPanginoon to make choices without fear but do everything of the faith of the Lord.

  14. What Is Sin? • Third aspect of sin: “For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” (Rom. 14:23) • For the righteous shall live by faith (Rom.1:17; Gal. 3:11; Heb. 10:38; Hab. 2:4) for without faith, we cannot please God. Conversely, if you do not live by faith, you are unrighteous and in 1 Jn. 5:17, “all unrighteousness is sin.” • We live by the faith of the Son of God (Gal. 2:20) which cometh by hearing the word of God. The word of God (prophecy) came to us by the testimony of Jesus (Rev. 1:2; 19:10). Therefore Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith. (Heb. 12:2) • Basis in separating the goats from the sheep (Matt chap. 25) is righteousness. “Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? (Mat 25:37) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. • Living by faith, therefore, means we live doing everything heartily as unto the Lord and not as unto men knowing that of the Lord we shall receive the reward of inheritance for we serve the Lord Christ. (Col. 3:17; 23-24) but he that doeth wrong (not by faith) shall receive the wrong he has done (v. 25).

  15. Mashiach-Christos-Anointed One/Messiah/Christ-Pinahiran • Identity of the Messiah. • Iisalamangang “Annointed” bilangAnaknauring Dios (Heb. 1:8-9) Sa Bible maraming anointed, separated to do a specific function for the Lord: Saul, David as kings, Aaron, Elisha as prophets, Cyrus is anointed as the generous Persian king for the Jews. Kaibaangpagka-anointed ngPanginoongJesucristo. He is anointed above His fellows. • In ancient times, there have been kings, priests and prophets consecrated to their respective offices by anointing. However, none of them was consecrated as king, priest and prophet, all three offices at the same time upon the same person. Jesus the Messiah was anointed above His fellows by God the Father with God the Holy Spirit in eternity, thus, only Jesus is the eternal Christ anointed as eternal Prophet, eternal Priest and eternal King. • Sa “crisis at Caesarea Philippi” ay tinanongngPanginoonJesucristoangKaniyangmgaalagad, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” At angsagotni Simon Pedro, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matt. 16:16; cf. Jn. 20:31) Accepted ngPanginoong Jesus ang identification ni Pedro sa kung sinoang Cristo sapagkatito ay ipinahayagsakaniyangAmanaitinurongPanginoong Jesus sakanila. (Matt. 16:17) • The Christ, the Son of God is also the Son of man. Samakatuwid, itongDios Anak ay nagkatawang (made in the likeness of sinful flesh) taoupangkatawaninNiyaangtaonanagkasalasaisangdako, at makatawanNiyaang Dios sakabilangdakoupangmagampananNiyaangtungkulinngpagiging Prophet (declaring the will of God because He is God) and as Priest-Mediator of man to God sapaghahainngKaniyangkatawangtao at maipagkasundoNiyaang Dios at angtao and as King to exercise theocratic rule in justice and in righteousness and peace without end.

  16. The Messianic Function of Jesus • Central to His function as the Messiah, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, is anointed in eternity to do the will of God by offering His body (Heb. 10:5-10) to take away the first sacrificial system and offer His body as the once and for all sacrifice for sin to condemn sin in the flesh (Rom. 8:3) and by the shedding of His blood, redeem us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (Tit. 2:14; 1 Jn. 1:7-9). • It is agreed upon by the God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in their everlasting covenant, that the eternal purpose of God is purposed in the Son of God, Jesus the Messiah (Eph. 3:11); • The Lord Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, will offer Himself blameless, without blemish as the Lamb of God , a sacrifice for sin and with His shed blood takes away the sin of the world (Jn.1:29), cleanses our conscience from dead “good” works to serve the living God (Heb. 9:14); • The Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep (Psalm 23), will lay down His life for His sheep (Jn. 10:11, 17-18) and by shedding His blood as a sacrifice for the sin of the world, make us perfect (without blame, justified, because He took the blame for us) to do good works pleasing to God (Heb. 13:20-21); • Being the propitiation for our sins and for the whole world (1 Jn. 2:2) He made peace by the blood of His cross and He reconciled (enmity with God is cancelled; kinship relationship with Him is restored ) all things to Himself (Col. 1:20), the Father commanded the Lord to take His life back from the dead. (Jn10:17)

  17. Anointing of Jesus the Messiah • Jesus is anointed in different stages: • In eternity. Heb. 1:8-9; But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. (cf. Ps. 45:6-7) • In His incarnation/birth. Mtt. 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Lk. 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. • In His public ministry. Lk. 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

  18. The Anointing of Jesus as the Eternal Christ • Jesus is anointed as the Eternal Christ: • On the basis of His character of loving righteousness and justice and hating iniquity the Son was anointed with the “oil of gladness” (a figure of speech which means God the Father is well pleased with the Son; Matt. 3:17; 17:5; 2 Pet. 1:17) above all His fellows, e.g., anointed kings, anointed prophets, anointed priests. • On the basis of His voluntary servanthood(bataysaKaniyangkusangpagganapnggawainbilangisangalipin) (Phil. 2:6-9: Heb. 10:5-7) • On the basis of His assumed responsibilities or offices.

  19. Jesus as the Eternally Perfect Prophet • Eternally Perfect Prophet. • The Son is the image of the invisible God. Jesus is the image (exact copy, replica, duplicate) of the invisible God (Col. 1:15), that is God the Father (Jn. 1:18) but whosoever has seen the Son has seen the Father. (Jn. 14:9) • The Son and the Father are one (in essence, iisasauri). (Jn. 10:30-33; Col. 2:9) • The Son is the Revealer of the Father (Jn. 1:18; Matt. 11:27; Jn. 14:6) • The Son is the Revelation of God. (Jn. 1:1- The word, “Logos”, which was with God from the beginning is a Person of the Godkind., God the Son who became flesh (Jn. 1:14). He is called “Logos”, because word is what we use to communicate our thoughts and will. The Son of God may be called “the Word,” because He is the medium by which God promulgates His will and issues His commandments (Rev. 1:2; 19:10).

  20. Jesus as the Eternally Perfect Priest • Eternally perfect high priest. Psa 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. • Unlike the Aaronic and Levitical priesthood, where priests die and need a successor, the Lord Jesus Christ’s priesthood has no successor, wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (Heb 7:25) • His priesthood is not only eternal but being eternal it covers all things. Kaya lahatnghainsa Dios ay sahindimapapalitannapagka-mataasnasaserdotengPanginoongJesucristoilagak at ihain at ihabilin. Kaya lahatdapatpasakopsaKaniyangpagka-mataasnasaserdote. • Heb. 3:1 - “Consider Jesus the apostle and high priest of our confession.” Isaalang-alangmo, bigyanmongkatarungansi Jesus naSiyangapostol at mataasnasaserdotengatingpagpapahayag. 21. High Priestly Functions of Jesus This High Priestly function of the Lord Jesus Christ is an on-going and everlasting function of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, the mediatorial functions of the Lord Jesus Christ are indispensable, eternal and over-all. • Tagapakiusap (Intercessorship) • Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. • Rom 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. • Tagapagpahayag (Confessorship) • Mat 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. • Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. • Tagapagtanggol (Advocacy) • 1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

  22. Eternally Perfect King • Jesus Christ is the King in all dimensions of the Kingdom of God: • Eternal Kingdom. Ang Dios AmamismoangnagpakilalasaPanginoongJesucristonamayroongtrononawalanghanggannaangibigsabihinangPanginoongJesucristo ay Harinawalanghanggan. (Heb. 1:8-9; 2 Pet. 1:11) Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (Jn. 3:3) How can one be born again? But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (Jn. 1:12) • The Lamb sits upon the throne of God in the new heavens and new earth. (Rev 22:3-5 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.) • Universal Kingdom of God or the Biblical Kingdom of Heaven. It is the governing/governance of the universe, all of creation, by God from the heaven(s). Universal authority to govern and rule is given to the Lord Jesus Christ. All authority in heaven and in earth has been given to Jesus. (Matt. 28:18 “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”) • Millenial Kingdom. Jesus, the Christ is the Son of David, as well as the Adon of David, shall sit upon David’s throne forever. Psa 89:3-4 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.

  23. The Messiah as Suffering Servant and Conquering King • The Old Testament bears a double witness to Jesus: • As a vicariously suffering Messiah (Isa. 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.) and to die but not of His own making but for others (Dan 9:25-26 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary). • As the Son of David (Isa. 9:6-7) • What Messiah were the disciples expecting? • A conquering king to establish His kingdom (Matt. 16:21-23; 22:41-45; Acts 1:6 Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?) • Suffering servant to be sacrificed for the sin of the world but rejected as spoken by Simeon, a devout waiting for the consolation of Israel, said, “Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against (opposed and rejected).” (Lk. 2:34) John the Baptist introduced Jesus as “The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” He is to be the sacrificial lamb. • After the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and His ascension to the throne of God, during the Pentecost, Peter would understand the redemption plan of the Messiah when he said, “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” (Act 2:36) • The purpose of the First Coming Jesus the Messiah: • Mat_3:15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.“ • Mat 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. • Mar_2:17 "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." • Luk 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." • Joh_12:47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

  24. Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment

  25. Biblical Salvation • Biblical salvation refers to our (most often, eternal and spiritual) deliverance from the consequence of sin (wrath of God and death and hell) and therefore involves the forgiveness and removal of sin through the redeeming sinless sacrifice of Jesus Christ and receive eternal life from Him. • 1 Thess 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. • Rom. 5:9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

  26. Misconceptions About Salvation • Goodworks. (Eph. 2:8-9; Isa. 64:6) • Religion (Lat, religare, to bind). Religion is a human way or human system of being bonded to God (through ceremonies (e.g., child baptism and confirmation) In the Bible we need pure religion. This is a consequence, not a prerequisite, to salvation. (Jas. 1:27 “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, ‘To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.) • Church membership. The Church is not salvation; it is a body of saved souls. Being listed in their roster does not save you. What must one do? (Acts 16:31)

  27. Identity of Salvation • Yeshua (Si Yahweh angkaligtasan) Exo. 15:2, Ps. 118:14, Isa. 12:2. Sinong Yahweh? • OT: Jesus is Yahweh which is salvation (Isa. 45:22,23; Heb. 12:2; Phil. 2:6-11) • NT: Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of the world. (Jn. 4:42; 1 Jn. 4:14) • From everlasting to everlasting, Jesus is the Christ which would be the Lamb of God whotakes away the sin of the world. (Heb. 13:20; Heb. 9:14; Rev. 13:8)

  28. Work of Salvation • It is a finished/completed work. • Jn. 19:30 Jesus said, “It is finished” and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. • Heb 10:10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. • It is obtained by faith alone by whosoever commits himself to Jesus (Yeshua), the Lord is salvation. • God’s sovereignty vs. Man’s responsibility • Jesus is salvation. (No issue) • Once saved always saved? • Illustration: Adam; Prodigal son • Assurance of salvation. Jn. 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you…Jn. 15:6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned
