  3. Hinduism • Hinduism is the majority religion of India. • 800 Million People are Hindu • The Religion is about 4,000 Years Old

  4. Founder of Hinduism? • Hinduism developed as a result of the conquest and culture diffusion between the Indus River Valley Civilizations and the conquering Aryans. • No single clear founder of Hinduism.

  5. Important Hindu Texts • Vedas- great collection of Hindu Stories • Upanishads-influential Hindu text • Ramayana- Ancient Hindu Epic Story • BhagavadGita

  6. Hindu Beliefs • Polytheism or Monotheism • Caste System • Reincarnation • Dharma • Karma • Ganges River is Holy

  7. Is Hinduism Polytheistic or Monotheistic? • Christians/Jews/Muslims believe it is polytheistic while Indians believe it is monotheistic. • Hindus believe in many gods. • Hindus believe the many gods are all part of the “one God” Brahman • Can be viewed both ways.

  8. Reincarnation • Hindus Believe the soul does not die when your body does. • Soul Passes on to other bodies either human or animal. • Buddhism also believes in Reincarnation
