  2. Facts You May Not Know About Copper Tungsten for Electrode Materials Graphite has long been the preferred material for the majority of electrode applications except when it comes to ED Mining carbides. But it is now been shifting to copper tungsten electrode for ED Mining applications.

  3. Improve Wear Resistance using Copper Tungsten Electrodes Copper Tungsten Electrodes ED Mining carbides can be a jagged business. Determining the appropriate set of parameters for job success can require attention, time, and careful fine tuning. And unless you have a tremendous working relationship with your machine supplier support team, you need a little luck there. Especially if you are working against the clock! So, here’s the five effective ways that you can use to improve your Carbide ED Mining processes with a copper tungsten electrode. 4. First of all let’s understand what’s wear resistance? ED Mining Carbides is a slower process and as such wear rates can be abysmal. Thus, it’s vital to know the wear resistance of the electrode material. Before discussing about the wear resistance of copper tungsten, let’s first discuss how to measure wear. Finding out the wear resistance mostly means measuring corner wear and end wear. • End wear is the amount of material burned away from the bottom of the material to the depth of the electrode to the cavity • Corner wear is a measure of the length lost of the 90-degree external corner of an electrode to the corresponding internal corner. • Together these measurements dictate how successfully a material will perform throughout the duration of use.

  5. What Copper Tungsten Electrode Properties Improve Wear Resistance? As EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is a thermal process. The higher the melting point of the material, the better it can withstand the inherently high temperatures of the process. At 6,191 Degree Fahrenheit, Tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal and as such it offers truly unmatched thermal resistivity. Ultimately this translates to better corner wear rates. For applications where sharp corners and detailed cavities are a must, the composition can be adjusted to include more Tungsten to enhance performance. But be mindful as the less copper means slower cut rates. The structural integrity of copper makes it highly resistance to DC arcing in poor flushing conditions, where it can still produce very fine surface finishes. For smoother burning and better surface finish, material composition can include more Copper. Copper Tungsten products have high electricity and heat conductivity, anti-high temperature, corrosion resistance.

  6. Combining the thermal resistivity of Tungsten with Copper’s resistance to DC, arcing makes for an electrode that can hold up in sharp corners and help prevent pitting for EDMining Carbides. By using a copper tungsten electrode for your carbide EDMining applications, you can ensure production efficiency and cost savings resulting from the improved wear ratio of electrode to work piece material. Advantages of Copper Tungsten Electrode in EDMining Applications • Copper tungsten electrode inherits a great deal of strength from tungsten properties, yet retains some of copper’s softness. • Like tungsten carbide electrodes, it can be manufactured in the same very small sizes. • Its strength also gives it stability, which decreases walking, and can reduce the need for meeting a blind hole, making it ideal for deep hole drilling. • Unlike both copper and tungsten carbide electrodes, copper tungsten electrode is ideal for machining. • It is yielding enough to accept machining while strong enough to maintain its structure afterwards. • Copper tungsten electrode can effectively drill through many of the materials that are impractical targets for brass and copper. • This is due to the mixture of tungsten. Though it can’t cost-effectively drill through the toughest materials, in much of the application overlap of tungsten carbide and copper tungsten, copper tungsten electrodes are more economical. • Copper tungsten electrodes also have a shorter lead time than tungsten carbide since its manufacturing process is simpler.

  7. Custom copper tungsten electrodes are available in sizes from .06mm to 3.0mm in diameter, in lengths from 100mm to 700mm. Inner and outer diameters may be adjusted. The ratio of tungsten to copper can be adjusted to optimize electrode characteristics. The percentage of tungsten is from 50% to 90%, with 10% gradations. Diameter gradations for copper tungsten electrodes are not as fine as those for brass or copper, due to different manufacturing methods. So, to help your unique needs, Weison Advanced Materials Co.
