  1. ECS TDR highlights Activities Milestones Core team: Franco Carena Jean-Claude Marin Sandro Vascotto ALICE Technical Board

  2. TDR highlights Field of application of the ECS is the two-dimensional control space of the experiment. • Activity domains: fields of activity requiring an automatic control.Examples: trigger, DAQ, HLT and detector infrastructure (power supplies, fluids, cooling). Each controlled by an online system. View of the system designer. • Detectors: operational units, either isolated or joint in partitions. View of the detector designerand the operator ALICE Technical Board

  3. TDR highlights (2) • ECS scope: • Creation of the partition environment, where online systems run independently. • Coordination of the online systems within a partition. • ECS policy: Minimal impact on the online systems. Independent development, independent operation. Conventional object-oriented interface/communication, based on SMI++. ALICE Technical Board

  5. Activities in 2003 • TPC • Discussion on requirements on operating modes. • DCS • Discussion on architecture of FERO calibration systems. • Trigger • HMPID ALICE Technical Board

  6. Trigger • Frequent meetings and discussions. • Agreement on control interface. • Collaboration on control-architecture definition. Work progressing well. People involved: Anton Jusko Roman Lietava Orlando Villalobos Baillie ALICE Technical Board

  7. HMPID ECS prototype driving DCS, DAQ and Trigger, used at the test beam. • DCS: control of HV and LV, implemented on Windows. The ECS uses the native access control of the DCS. • Trigger implemented on VME, controlled by the ECS. • DAQ: DATE upgraded to fulfil the ECS interface. • Implementation of compatible access control. • Decoupling the HI from run control. • Implementation of SMI objects representing the run control. • FERO calibration performed by the ECS through the DDL, as a sequence of commands to trigger and DAQ, depending on the state of trigger, DAQ and DCS. People involved: Giacinto de Cataldo Paolo Martinengo Ervin Dénes Csaba Soos Antonio Franco ALICE Technical Board

  8. PCA HMPID Used during the October-November 2003 beam tests. ALICE Technical Board

  9. Next steps • Continue development. • Trigger • Partitions • Database • Test in the lab a prototype for the TPC, in collaboration with the DCS and TPC groups. • Prototype ready for the test & commissioning of the TPC at Point 2 (end 2004). • Development of the prototype for the ITS, joint tests in the lab of SPD, SDD and SSD.
