Essay On Social Pressure Social Pressure is defined by textbook as "the real or perceived idea that if one deviates from expected standard group behavior, there will be real, expected, or imagined consequences from other group members," (Hansen–Horn, 2008, p. 184). On college and university campuses, students are often unaware of social pressures and the effects that social pressures can have on a student's mental and physical health. Mid–America University has taken this issue and has created an interactive program for freshman students not only to inform them, but to also help make wise decisions when confronted with these pressures. First, the university will research issues that students faces as well as decisions that they make and why they make them. From...show more content... To accomplish this, we will first define the target audience and discuss the importance relationship quality plays in the effectiveness of this program. From here, we will discuss social media platform and ways to most effectively reach out to students. Finally, we will discuss cognitive and affective relationship considerations that will be utilized as well as how they will be used. Target Audiences and Relationship Quality According to "The American Freshman, The Forty Year Trends," "[b]y 2006, 68.5 percent of entering students was 18, while the percentage of students 19 and older more than doubled to 29.6 percent," (Pryor, 2007, p. 9). With many students entering college right out of high school and some taking a gap year, the target audiences for our campaign are first–year college students between the ages of 17–years–old and 20–years–old. By creating a target audience that spans four years, the university is considering those that start college at a younger age as well as those that may take a few gap years before starting their freshman year. Relationship quality measures that we will use throughout our campaign will be commitment, communality, trust, and satisfaction, (p.58). Through our campaign objectives we will build on these four qualities through our campaign objectives: To build communality, Mid–America University will invite incoming freshman students to like/follow as page on Facebook that is specific to their ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Instructional Leadership Effective school leadership today must combine the traditional school leadership duties such as teacher evaluation, budgeting, scheduling, and facilities maintenance with a deep involvement with specific aspects of teaching and learning. Effective instructional leaders are intensely involved in curricular and instructional issues that directly affect student achievement (Cotton, 2003). The writer of this paper acknowledges that school principals should play the role of instructional leaders, not just a school manager. The reality is that are many demands on a principals time and management skills making it difficult for most of them to spend time in classrooms, when performing teacher evaluation. Principals often make sure that teachers...show more content... Consequently, a leader needs to be passionate about their work but also needs to find a balance between work and home. The role of the leader requires one to be active and think on their feet. Reflecting on daily actions, keeping abreast with professional development, reading and engaging in a stress relieving activity, such as exercise, are all activities that can help the leaders manage their workload (Johnson, 2005). It is important to remember that the word leadership does not seem to define the person but rather the person defines what the leader is. The writer acquired the knowledge that Instructional leadership is a collaborative learning environment where learning is not confined to the classroom and is the objective of all educators. Instructional leadership is an important departure from the ancient model of administrator as authoritarian. The writer feels that learning should be a top–down process. If those in charge of the school are excited about learning, then they will share their enthusiasm throughout the community. Those who learn to be instructional leaders acquire many characteristics that are beneficial to their schools and communities. The writer concurs that Instructional leaders exhibit a clear sense of direction for their schools and prioritize and focus attention on the things that really ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Peak Hour Essay Stressed, left eye twitching, shouting at inanimate objects? Eighty three percent of all Canadian drivers find peak hour traffic more stressful than work. That means sitting in traffic is worse than sitting through your boss's PowerPoint presentation. Everybody has their own personal traffic nightmare, whether it's a massive backup, or perhaps, those screaming kids in the back. However, there is a way to calm your seething road rage and keep cool through the frustrating gridlock. If you find yourself in one of these situations the first thing to do in order to calm yourself down is to embrace the fact that you are stuck in a gridlock. You are going to be there for a while, you might as well have a good time. The second thing you do...show more content... Keep the vehicle at a comfortable temperature. Studies have shown that you are much more irritable when you are warm, so crank up the A/C to keep your body temperature at a comforting level. Make sure you have plenty of gas when you set out, so that you're not actually worried about running out of gas by using the air conditioner. In milder weather keep windows open to get fresh air which is soothing. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing while driving. Avoid wearing clothes which are too tight and restrictive. Keep a pair of shoes in the car for driving through traffic and make sure to change into those as soon as you start out driving. Opt for a seat cushion or back rest to further make yourself more relaxed during traffic periods throughout the day. Joe Brown, editor in chief of tech blog Gizmodo, indicates that the best thing to do during a traffic jam is to stay in the slow lane, because if you are trying to hurry, you are never going to win. So stay in the right lane, let everybody else pass you, let everybody else stress out , just take your time and make a great day of it. How you think can have a profound effect on your emotional and physical well–being. Each time you think a negative thought about yourself, your body reacts as if it were in the throes ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Cookies Essay Ice cream, cookies, cake , candy, or just plain chocolate–whatever it is, we all have our vices. Mine are cookies. Specifically, thick, soft, buttery cookies like what you might find in a bakery, and one of my favorites are snickerdoodles. They're a classic, right up there with chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, or oatmeal raisin cookies. And you know what? You don't even have to go out and buy them. You can make them at home, and I can show you how. Regardless if you're cooking or baking, the first thing you should do is read the recipe you're following. You want to make sure that you not only have the ingredients on hand, but enough to make the recipe. Secondly, you need to consider how many people you're serving. Do you wat a small...show more content... This serves a couple purposes: the sugar is distributed throughout the butter, and allows it to dissolve into the butter. Additionally, as you beat the butter and sugar together, you're incorporating air into the batter, giving our cookies a lighter, fluffy texture. The air pockets in the cookie dough are poor heat conductors, meaning that they help insulate the dough and slow down the rate that the butter and sugar melt (Parks). Ideally, butter that's room temperature should be used for this process. It's not only easier to mix, but there's a science behind it. Butter that's too cold doesn't mix well and doesn't get enough air bubbles. Using melted butter will get air bubbles in the batter, but will collapse and make the cookies thin (Robbins). After the sugar and butter have been beaten into a fluffy paste, add the eggs and mix well. In a separate medium sized bowl, you add the dry ingredients: 2 ¾ cups flour, 2 tsp. Cream of tartar, 1 tsp. Baking soda, and ½ tsp. Salt. These are whisked together and mixed separately. When you mix the dry ingredients separately, you ensure that the soda, salt, and cream of tartar are evenly distributed. Mixing wet and dry ingredients separately allows each set to be mixed thoroughly on its own and combined together with little mixing. In most cases overmixing creates a tough texture. Dry ingredients should be added gradually. After the dough is mixed, you need to let it rest and chill in ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
Coronary Artery Disease Essay Coronary Artery Disease, also known as CAD, is the most common form of heart disease. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Coronary Artery Disease obstructs the blood flow in vessels that provides blood to the heart which is caused by the buildup of plaque on the artery walls. (Rogers, 2011, p.87) (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque is a yellow substance that consists of fat substances, like cholesterol, and narrows or clogs the arteries which prevents blood flow. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque can build up in any artery but usually favors large and medium sized arteries. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease include shortness of breath, pain, dizziness, angina, heart attack....show more content... (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Some surgical procedures used to treat CAD are angioplasty and coronary artery bypass surgery. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) The angioplasty surgery is when your doctor inserts a catheter to the blockage in the artery and threads the wire through the narrowed arteries. (Opening blocked coronary arteries: New questions about the old answer, nd., p.2) Once the balloon is in place, at the sight of the blockage, the balloon inflates which causes the plaque to crack and the artery to become free from blockage. (Opening blocked coronary arteries: New questions about the old answer, nd., p.2) The other surgical opinion for CAD is coronary artery bypass surgery is a procedure done by a doctor using a graft. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) The doctor will construct a graft to direct the blood flow around the blockage using existing blood vessels in the body. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Due to the fact that this procedure requires open heart surgery, it is usually used for patients with several partial or full blockages. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Coronary Artery Disease can be prevented by controlling your blood pressure, diabetes and blood cholesterol. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Other ways to lower your risk of developing CAD is by eating healthy foods low in fat, being active, not smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, lessen the stress you ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
How to Make Fruit Smoothies Essay Ever wish there were a delicious smoothie somewhere to buy at an inexpensive price? Well there is, and there is no need to go out! Read this section on how to make fruit smoothies and make a scrumptious smoothie. To make a good smoothie, the materials needed are: about ¾ cup of juice, or milk, about 2 cups of fresh or frozen fruits, ½ of yogurt, and finally, 6 cubes of ice if the fruits aren't frozen. A blender that can crush ice well and that has a secure lid is also required. Unlike other recipes, a smoothie recipe doesn't have to use exact measurements. To have a better tasting smoothie, use frozen fruits. Freeze fresh fruits, or buy them pre–frozen. If the fruits are too big, cut them in half. Also, peel the fruits before loading...show more content... To make the smoothie healthier, include a scoop of whey or soy protein powder. For a sweet smoothie, use pineapple juice for the liquid. Something creamy? Try milk. Try using different flavored yogurts and combinations of fruits. Now that all the material is prepared, get cooking! Gather all the ingredients and put them in the blender. To make things easier, put the fruits first, and then the milk or the juice. The liquid will help the fruits melt a bit, making it easier to pure. Finally, add the yogurt. When all the ingredients are in the blender, turn it on, using the liquefy or puree setting. Depending on the blender, wait about 30 seconds and turn it off so that the fruits will be mixed up well with the liquid and the yogurt. Make sure to put the cap on the blender and watch out for the cutter! It hurts if you cut yourself on it. When the ice cubes stop blending, turn off the blender and see if the smoothie is clear and if there are no chunks of fruits inside. Get a spoon and move it around in the blender to check. If the smoothie looks too thin add more fruits or ice and this should thicken it up. If it looks too thick, add more liquid in it. Adding yogurt or a banana will thicken the smoothie, but don't add both unless another watery fruit is used in the smoothie. Once this step is finished, pour the cool concoction into a large glass. For maximum health benefit, drink the smoothie straight away. If there is too much, then freeze the smoothie. A frozen ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...
