  2. Quick History • 1941 ~ Grand Coulee Dam Hydro-electric project extirpates salmon and steelhead. • 1941 to Early 1980’s ~ Resident fishery impacted by reservoir operations. Early fish stocking attempts deemed un-viable. • Early 1980’s ~ Rainbow trout net pen planting begins through grass root efforts by local residents, LRDA formed. • 1980 ~ Congress enacted NWPP&C Act; • Protect Mitigate and Enhance fish & wildlife. • 1986 - 1987 ~ Kokanee salmon and rainbow trout artificial production identified as mitigation vehicle, amended into the 1987 CBF&WP • 1988 - 1990 ~ LRHCT Formed, Spokane Tribe and WDF&W enter into agreements' with BPA for construction of Spokane Tribal and Sherman Creek Hatcheries and long term O&M funding. • 1991 - 1992 ~ Spokane Tribal and Sherman Creek facilities go online. • 1994 ~ Lake Roosevelt Net Pen Program receives BPA funding.

Lake Roosevelt Fisheries Guiding Document Co-Manager Goals • Conservation, enhancement and restoration of native species. • Provide and maintain subsistence fishing opportunities for Native American Tribes. • Provide and maintain sport fisheries that are economically productive for Lake Roosevelt and surrounding communities.

  4. Specific Hatchery Objectives 1: Increase annual kokanee salmon harvest opportunities. 2: Increase annual rainbow trout harvest opportunities. 3: Supplement Lake Roosevelt kokanee salmon egg sources.

  8. Annual TargetRelease Goals: • Kokanee Salmon • 3 Million Fry • Thermal otolith marked • 200,000 Yearling’s • Adipose fin clipped • 5-7 fish/lb target release size • Rainbow Trout • 750,000 Yearling’s • Sterile / Triploid’s • Adipose fin clipped • 5-7 fish/lb target release size

Spokane Tribal Hatchery receives annual allotment of 1 Million Triploid eggs from WDFW Spokane Hatchery in February. 300,000 adipose clipped fish (50/lb) are transferred to Sherman Creek Hatchery in June/July. Transferred to Kettle Falls, Colville River, and Hunters net pens in October (15/lb). 750K Net pen release end of May (5/lb) All fish reared at Spokane Tribal Hatchery until June/July (50 /lb). Hatchery Rainbow Trout Flow Chart Spokane Tribal Hatchery retains 450,000 for additional hatchery rearing and adipose fin clipping June - Oct. Transferred to Hall Creek, Two Rivers, Seven Bays, Lincoln, and Keller Ferry net pens in October (15/lb). Upper Columbia/Kettle River production suspended pending redband genetic study Hatchery Rainbow Trout Production Flow Chart

Lake Whatcom allotment 1.8 million shipped to the WDFW Spokane Hatchery for thermal marking(Dec) Thermal marked eggs transferred to Spokane Tribal Hatchery (Jan) Hatchery Kokanee Salmon Flow Chart Meadow Creek eggs (2-5 million) picked up by WDFW from Clearwater Hatchery BC, Canada (Oct) Study allotment sent to WDFW Spokane Hatchery for thermal marking Thermal marked eggs transferred to Spokane Tribal Hatchery (Jan) Fry releases –deep water @ 7-Bays 2-3 million (300/lb) All remaining eggs shipped to Spokane Tribal Hatchery for incubation. Allotment for yearling releases separated. Fin clip remaining kokanee June-Dec 200,000 transferred to Sherman Ck Hatchery Post-smolt releases –Fort Spokane 200,000 Little Falls 25,000 (7/lb) Hatchery Kokanee Salmon Production Flow Chart
