  1. What are 3 reasons why we Sacrifice Jesus to God at Mass? nhastk rysyo ybeo

  2. The Mass as Reconciliation Write out the 4 stages of the Mass in order & what they mean. **Why do you think the Penitential Rite might come first? To describe the Penitential Rite To analyse the meaning of the Penitential Rite To evaluate the importance of the Penitential Rite? • Intro & Penitential rite – saying sorry to God for sins Dismissal and Final blessing • Liturgy of the Eucharist – the priest’s prayers over the bread & wine, & Holy Communion • Liturgy of the Word – the readings from the Bible, priest’s sermon & bidding prayers

  3. Listen to the song. Why do we feel sorry for the things we have done wrong? • It was stupid • It wasn’t really me • It hurt someone • We could have done better • We realise that’s how we are – it makes us sorry we’re not that great. Why do you feel bad about the things you’ve done wrong? Choose from the reasons on the board, or explain your own. **What makes you feel better when you’ve done something wrong?

  4. 1. Stick the penitential rite in your books in the middle of your page.2. Draw labels to the different parts of the prayer and match these phrases to what they mean, choosing from the boxes on the left.**Why is it important to have the penitential rite at the beginning of Mass? What sort of things are important to say at the start? • Ask for the saints to pray to God on your behalf • Admit different kinds of wrong-doing Penitential Rite I confess to Almighty God,and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault. in my thoughts and in my words,in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do;and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,to pray for me to the Lord our God. • Recognise it to be your fault, no one else’s • Ask the forgiveness of those around you as your sinhas hurt & disappointed them too • Finally trust in God’s love and mercy

  5. Saying the penitential Rite at Mass reconciles us to God - it frees us from all venial sins… • in thought = • in word = • what I have done= • what I have failed to do= Stick in the paper. Give an example of each kind of venial sin mentioned in the Penitential Rite. What happens in Mass that makes this forgiveness real? Explain in detail. ** How could “failing to do” something be a sin?

  6. Draw arrow with 3 labels. Work out which prayers go under which headings. Write one under each heading. **How could someone be “condemned” by eating Jesus’ body and blood? • There is a kind of movement in the Mass, from • admitting sins, • to hoping for God’s forgiveness • to being forgiven and healed . “This is my blood, poured out for you and for many , for the forgiveness of sins”. Pray & hope for forgiveness Eg when we say “...” May the sacraments we have received be for us a healing remedy and bring us to eternal life. Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church. I confess that I have sinned.. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed. ...as I eat your body and drink your blood, let it not bring me condemnation, but health in mind and body. • Receive Jesus’ healing & forgiveness • Eg “...” Admit Wrong-doing Eg“...”

  7. Write a prayer that the Priest could say before he goes out to say Mass for the people. Think about how he hopes that people will receive the Eucharist with a pure & worthy heart.
