Field Trips • Butterfly Pavilion • 4 Mile Historic Park • Denver Museum of Nature and Science- Myth Busters Exhibit • Lone Tree Arts Center Play- Bunnicula
Carpool • Morning Carpool begins at 7:35am • Students report to the cafeteria • Afternoon Carpool begins at 3:35pm (All-Call:~4pm) • Students will have their backpack ready and when their name is called leave immediately and go directly to carpool! (We have been practicing.) • Students can get started on their homework, read, or talk quietly with friends
Reminders • Please have your child bring in a water bottle and snack every day! • Third Grade classroom are Peanut Free! Please do not send in any snacks with nuts in them(peanuts at lunch time are ok) • Please send your child with a sweatshirt or sweater every day- Colorado weather changes very quickly! • PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING! This prevents lost jackets, gloves, water bottles, etc!
ClassroomManagement • Green = great day, keep up the good work • Yellow = slow down, make better choices • Orange = making bad choices, time out to think • Red = Discipline Process
Homework Folder / Planner • All homework will be noted in Planner and the assignment(s) will be in their orange homework folder. • Orange Four Pocket Homework Folder- New this year to help with organization • Planners come home every day (including Friday) • Please review the planner and initial each evening AFTER you’ve checked that your child has done all of his/her homework. Otherwise a signature is worthless! • Check for your child’s behavior color and discuss as appropriate • Can use planner or email for correspondence as it is checked daily • Please return Planner and Homework Folder daily!
Late Policy for homework or classwork: K-3: 10% day 1; 20% day 2; 50% within unit STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE AND RETURN ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT!! Missed school/Missed Work: Students have 2 days for each EXCUSED absence to make up their work. Ex: If they were absent on Monday, they will obtain the assignment and the work will be due on Thursday, at the start of school.
ParentPortal- I/C • LOOK: Grades will be updated weekly. • Please SAVE work so that in case of an error in posting, you can send the work back in for an adjustment to I/C. • Missing assignments: If you receive a missing assignment notice, please ask your child to locate or finish it and turn it in.
Friday Folder • Yellow Folder-should come home every Friday • Completed and graded assignments • Important notes from office, PTO, after school programs, etc. • Please return folder empty on Monday
Birthdays • Summer Birthdays can celebrate on half birthdays (ex. July 5th celebrates on January 5th) • Welcome to send in treats (individual and easy to pass out, please) • Treats will be enjoyed at second recess outside It would be great to see healthy treats coming in…..cheese sticks, frozen go-gurt, fruit, etc.
Reading • We will start reading groups soon! • Check websites for reading teachers to get updates • Reading Log (20 minutes/day expectation)- due on the first day of the following month • We will begin in September
Saxon Math • We have upgraded to the new edition of Saxon. All 3rd graders will have a textbook. • Students will have access to an online textbook, so they will not be taking the textbook back and forth • HW generally every night • We are beginning Math tomorrow • Assessments: Every 5 lessons (lessons 10, 15, 20, 25, etc) with some new material and some review material
Science and STEM • FOSS Science Units- Life Structures (crayfish, plants, human body), Water, and Measuring Matter • Foss kids- hands-on activity/inquiry style/ science notebooks • FOSS online textbook and activities Generally 4 assessments per unit (a unit takes about 1 trimester!) • STEM Unitswith Mrs. Liddick, Mr. Todd, Mrs. Heins, and Mrs. Weiss • 9/3- 9/12– WeDo Robotics • 12/2- 12/13 Environmental Engineering (Water Filtration) • April 14-25 Lost in the Amazon (Using a hand held GPS)
History • Core knowledge text book • Geography • World Rivers • Ancient Rome • Vikings • Earliest Americans • European Explorers • 13 Colonies • Canada Generally 1 assessment at the end of each unit.
