This week we worked hard on syllables and creating images as we read. We also read the story, “The Mitten” they loved the story and have their own mitten to retell it to you! We also talked about families. It’s a fun time of the year to see the continued growth of all! Tips: We have been reading booking in our small reading groups!! I am so proud of these kids! Help them at home with these tips: Practice using these strategies at home when reading too: Have an eagle eye (look at the picture for clues), use stretchy snake (stretch out each sound of the word and push it back together), use chunky monkey (find chunks or parts of the word you know, or use lips the fish (get your lips ready to say the first sound and make a good guess). • Reminders: • Please remember to send all your child’s winter gear to school. We have had kids missing boots or snow pants and that makes their time outside, no fun, because they have to stay on the sidewalk for the entire recess. • If you haven’t sent in snack for January, please do so. We are in need of snack! We have 22 students in our classroom. Peek at next week: Language Arts: rhyming, letter sound /Gg/ when it says /j/ High Frequency Words: do, big Math: Numbers 11-31 Science: Motion (Does it move fast or slow?) Theme: Martin Luther King Birthdays and Other Important Dates Shirley: 16th Grady: July 3rd Luis: July 26th Valentine Party- Friday February 14th. Your child may bring in Valentines and treats.
