2. A. Effect on the American Population People lose everything – about 25% are unemployed. People relied on “breadlines” and “soup kitchens” to get food. Had very long lines.

3. B. Hoovervilles Lots of people lost their homes during the Great Depression. Homeless people created “Hoovervilles”- communities of homemade shacks. Why do you think they named it this? People wanted direct relief to help people get back on their feet.

4. C. Dust Bowl Midwestern farmers treated land poorly. Heavy drought turned loose soil into dust and is then carried away by huge dust storms. Result: Massive destruction; large numbers of people moved farther West (California.)
