Introduction Definition Origin Advantages Applications How Smart Clothes work??? Levi’s musical Jacket Smart-T-Shirt Conclusion References Contents
Introduction • Everyone of us are used to computers that provide quick computations and communications but have we ever thought of devices which are very tiny almost invisible and provide the same function ? Ya !!!!! it is possible with help of concept called ‘Pervasive Computing’. • Based on the vision of Mark Weiser
A Definition….. • Pervasive computing is the trend towards increasingly ubiquitous connected computing devices in the environment, a trend being brought about by a convergence of advanced electronic and particularly, wireless- technologies and the Internet • . It spreads intelligence and connectivity to more or less everything.
It’s Origin • Ubiquitious computing began in the Electronics and Imaging Laboratory of the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) • The ParcPad maintained constant network connectivity by using a unique "near-field radio" system designed by Ed Richley.
Advantages of Pervasive Computing • Quick, efficient and effortless. • It supports a new class of intelligent and portable appliances or "smart devices" . • It gives people convenient access to relevant information . • It removes the complexity of new technologies.
Applications • Remote computers will monitor our heath statistics • Cars will use the Internet to find an open parking space or the nearest vegetarian restaurant for their owners • Used in Digi-tickers or implanted heart monitors • In development of Smart Clothes.
How Smart Clothes Work ????? Weaving The Digital Fabric • Silk organza is ideal for computerized clothing because it is made with two fibers that make it conducive to electricity. A micrograph of silk organza. You can see the copper foil that is wrapped around the horizontal threads.
Levi’s Musical Jacket • The musical jacket is an example of how computerized clothing could be used for entertainment. • Controlled with an all-fabric capacitive keyboard. Keypad that controls Levi's musical
Smart -T-Shirt • The shirt was being designed for soldiers in combat, so that medical personnel could find the exact location of a bullet wound. • The smart shirt can monitor both heart and breathing rates An early prototype of the smart shirt developed at Georgia Tech
Conclusion • Pervasive computing provides an attractive vision for the future of computing • Computational power will be available everywhere through mobile and stationary devices • When Edison finally found a filament that would burn, did he see the possibility of silent but pervasive electrical current flowing throughout our homes, cars and communities?
