May 4th Agenda CiviMember allows you to track and manage membership for one or more organizations.  you can define different membership types for each organization.  tool to track contacts through the membership cycle, and handle membership renewals it's aim is to automate membership admin as much as possible

Atlantis State Public Transit Association • Case Study on how to manage membership. • Membership types • the admin creates three separate types for the regular member category to account for the three dues levels • the duration is one year, beginning on Jan. 1st with a rollover date of Oct. 1st • the admin accounts for new members who join very late in the year and are not able to fully benefit from their membership during that calendar: year their memberships extend through December 31 the following year. • Membership sign up/renewal page. CiviMember can maintain the information about how to join in one place and generate a sign up page or renewal page from it as appropriate.

4. The sign-up page will be available toa ll website visitors, where as the renewal page will be visible tonly to contacts who are already members, after they login to the members-only section. ASPTA creates a menu link to expose the form and begin their online membership recruitment effort.

Planning for CiviMember • Work out the membership types you'll offer and how you'll model them in CiviCRM • Membership lengths? • Start and End times? • rolling or fixed? • does it always start at the same date, such as January 1st or can a personal start an annual membership that runs exactly one year till the day rolls around when they signed up. • Is membership based on individual? family? or organization?  • Example form CiviCRM: "for instance a social service agency may sign up an entire family as a member, while policy making organization may sign up organizations as members. • Keep things simple.

6. Planning continued... Why is your organization's membership structure the way it is? reasons due to previous tech or organizational limits? Keep it simple Renewal is just as important as initial membership. Have renewal templates working and tested.

Configuring CiviMember Administer/CiviMember/Membership Types • you can create an unlimited number of these types and set various options • how they are used, term period, and dues amounts • new membership type • name and description • organization membership is affiliated with • minimum fee • contribution type (may need to be created) • in administer portion of top menu • renewal method (template) • duration • period type (rolling or fixed)

8. relationship type • membership can be inhereited form one contact to another. • Visibility • "Is this membership type available for self-service signups ('Public') or assigned by CiviCRM 'staff' users only ('Admin')" • lifetime membership?  • Renewal Reminders • can send out a reminder email to members as the expiration date for that particular member approaches.  • particularly helpful for rolling membership types, where contacts may join at any time during the year. • administer/civimail/message templates

9. Membership Status Roles Member ship statues control the journey that contacts take through the membership process.  • each is marked with a different status • pending, new, current, grace, expired • can be configured in administer/civimember/membership status roles

10. Sign Up/ Renewal Pages These pages allow website visitors and existing contacts to manage their own memberships. Membership sign up and renewal pages can be connected with financial contribution. • you can use CiviCRM to process membership dues, fees and special contributions. • we have done this before but lets visit it again. • new aspects • membership on the behalf of an organization.
