  1. Update on V0+ design V. Grabski, A.Menchaca, R. Nunez Instituto de Fisica Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico FIT Pre-Review Meeting March 04, 2016 • Content • Scintillator choice • design for the detector with SiPM • design for the detector with MCP • Sammary

  2. Scintillator choice (EJ204,EJ228,EJ232) • Making the large pieces of EJ-232 may be difficult for us due to the chemical process. This material is usually always done in smaller batches and smaller cast cells. We estimate the price to be approximately 4 times higher than the EJ-204. If you project really needs this, I can visit with Chuck Hurlbut to see if we can work out a method (Chris Maxwell, Sales Manager Eljen Technology) • EJ-204 Plastic Scintillator Disc Size: 150cm diameter x 4cm thick, consisting of 8 each 45° Sectors, The straight edges diamond milled, radius edges having sand and polished edge, and the faces "as cast". $ 14,440 • Additional 45,000$ to have EJ232 ?? • If we will not receive significant gain using EJ232 in the time resolution in June test beam then the choice will be EJ204. • Time resolution ~ 250ps; Amplitude ~ sigma/MPV < 10%

  3. First prototype with SiPMs

  4. First prototype with SiPMs 6x6mm2 bundle with black plastic support

  5. Design with 6x6mm2 SiPM • 1st ring 2 SiPM; surface reduction 22 times & 3SiPM 15 times price increase ~ 1k$ for all detector • 2nd ring 6 SiPM; surface reduction 25; this size is tested with 3cm thick scintillator. • 3rd ring 14 SiPM; surface reduction 25; this size is very close to our last prototype • 4th ring 52 SiPM; surface reduction 25; with surface reduction 50 - 26SiPM • 5th ring 167 SiPM; surface reduction 25; with surface reduction 50 - 84SiPM • The price decrease is about ~160k$ for all detector in case of surface reduction 50 for rings 4&5. For all rings the surface reduction is 1-5(25) – 395k$(EJ204) Rings 1-3(25) 4-5(50) – 235k$ (EJ204); SiPM(100$; Amp(50$), Fiber(2$/m)) Channel summing 84SiPM-> 1ch Radiation damage influence on the time resolution ?

  6. Design with 6x6mm2 SiPM 6x6mm2 bundles For all rings the surface reduction is 1-5(25) – 395k$(EJ204) Rings 1-3(25) 4-5(50) – 235k$ (EJ204); SiPM(100$; Amp(50$), Fiber(2$/m)) Fiber support Fiber matrix scintillator

  7. Prototype 10x10cm2 fiber matrixwith MCP • 1mm 400 fibers with 50cmlength • one bundle with 2x2cm2 • for the flexible construction we should make bundles with smaller sizes

  8. Design with 53x53mm2 MCPVery preliminary we need tests for the flexibility to estimate the longitudes of fibers for the ring 5 (60cm) • MCP ~ 9000$ • Fiber price 2$/m For all rings the surface reduction is 1-5(25) ~4MCP for the sector • 400k$ Rings 1-3(25) 4-5(50) ~2.5MCP for the sector • 250k$ With bundle design like this we can loose up to10% of MCP surface Common MCP for two sectors

  9. Modular design ? Modular design can be important if there is a radiation tolerance problems for fibers and for scintillators of rings 1&2

  10. Summary • Low fiber density for rings 4&5 will reduced the price significantly. • Price estimation is preliminary; After June November test it can be done more precisely. • We still need few tests for more detailed drawings and for decisions.
