  2. One should buy organic food because not only is it better for you, but it saves the environment and doesn’t have a huge price change.

  3. What is Organic food? Food with no: • pesticides • insecticides • fertilizers • toxic substances or • flavors added. • With the same • amount of: • Proteins • fats • carbohydrates

  4. What about the animals? Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones.

  5. Are benefits of organic food worth the cost?

  6. What does organic mean? • Must have at least 70% organic ingredients to be labeled organic. • USDA organic seal requires 95+% organic ingredients. • Animals get an undetermined amount of daily access to the outdoors. • Cannot be labeled 100% organic if synthetic ingredients are present.

  7. Nutrition: Organic vs. Synthetic • Presence of chemical pesticides and growth hormones. USDA asserts, however, that strict regulation of non-organic foods ensure no risk to health. • Organic foods have been shown to provide more nutrients, however, the difference varies and is often almost negligible. • Washing produce does not remove all pesticides however it is still recommended.

  11. Organic Foods: Worth The Extra Cost? • Organic food is produced by farmers who focus on using reusable resources • The farmers conserve soil and water to ensure environmental quality for future generations. • Organic foods save the environment and yourself at the same time. Appeal to emotion

  12. Helping the Environment • Organic farming • reduces pollution • conserve water • reduce soil erosion • Increase soil fertility • Uses less energy

  13. Healthier • Organic foods have low pesticides helping the health of children, pregnant women and fetuses. • Children affected by pesticides could include • less developed immune systems • developmental delays • behavioral disorders • motor dysfunctions
