  2. Self-Fulfilling Prophecy • A situation in which a researcher’s expectations influence that person’s own behavior, and thereby influence the participants behavior

  3. Avoiding Self-fulfilling prophecy • Two different experiments • Single-blind experiment- • Double-Blind Experiment

  4. Single-Blind Experiment • An experiment in which the participants are unaware of which participants received the treatment

  5. Double-Blind Experiment • an experiment in which neither the experimenter nor the participants know which participants received which treatment

  6. The Milgram Experiment • Wanted to see if people would administer shock just because an authority figure was present • Perfect example of a single-blind experiment because the participants were unaware that they were not administering a shock

  7. The Placebo Effect • A change in a participant’s illness or behavior that results from a belief that the treatment will have an effect rather than from the actual treatment
