  2. What is an All-In-One Printer? • An All-In-One Printer is also known as a Multifunction Printer. • These printers can generally print, scan, and copy. Some even fax. • Many interface directly with SD cards and contain small LCD screens to view photo files.

  3. Advantages of the All-In-One Printer All-In-One Printers: • Offer several capabilities in one product. • Take up considerably less space than buying each component separately. • Are generally less expensive than purchasing each device separately. • Require less resources to build. • Allow scanning and emailing as opposed to faxing – can save paper. • May have memory card slots to allow easy manipulation of photos.

  4. Disadvantages of the All-In-One Printer • Can’t match the quality of purchasing independent components. • If one part breaks, you are out the whole machine until it is fixed. • Networking can be an issue – many inexpensive ones will connect only to one computer by a USB cable.

  5. What should I consider when purchasing? • Laser vs. inkjet • Laser produces higher quality prints, but is considerably more expensive, especially if you need color • Ink type • Most use toner which can be refilled, but some use solid ink • Features most used • Consider what your MFP’s main use will be • If you don’t need a function, skimp on it so that you can put that money towards a different feature • Flatbed scanning versus a document feeder • Connectivity • USB versus parallel port • Compare brands and check out reviews • HP has roughly 64% of the market share, but it is not the only brand producing a quality product • You don’t have to spend a lot • Look for year-end closeouts and discounts. I purchased a closeout model for less than $80 and it may be the best peripheral device I have ever added to my computer
