BRIEFING OUTLINE • Definition and History of BOSS • The Three Pillars of BOSS • Conclusion
WHAT IS BOSS • The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) Program supports the overall quality of single soldiers' lives. BOSS identifies real soldier well being issues and concerns by recommending improvements through the chain of command. BOSS encourages and assists single soldiers in identifying and planning for recreational and leisure activities. Additionally, it gives single soldiers the opportunity to participate in and contribute to their respective communities
HISTORY OF BOSS • The BOSS program was established in 1989 to respond to the recreational needs of single soldiers, who make up 35% of the Army. As the program was implemented throughout the Army, it became evident that well being was the primary concern of single soldiers. • In 1991, the Chief of Staff of the Army officially expanded BOSS to include all aspects of soldiers' lives. BOSS members later began to express an interest in participating in community service projects. Recreation and leisure, well being, and community service are the core components or the three pillars of the BOSS program.
QUALITY OF LIFE • Quality of life includes those issues that help influence morale, living environment, personal growth and development of Soldiers. I.E. Dining Facility, Barracks
RECREATION & LEISURE • Fun activities include Ski trips, Shopping trips, BOSS Beach Blast, BOSS Bowling Tournament. • Several trips are scheduled throughout the year and are geared toward single Soldiers.
MORALE, WELFARE, & RECREATION • The MWR Recreation mission is to provide integrated and efficient customer-driven programs that increase our soldiers' leisure opportunities. • Recreation continues to be among the top services important to our soldiers' quality of life and we strive to meet the challenges of providing superior programming at affordable prices.
COMMUNITY SERVICE • BOSS makes a difference by volunteering in the community.
Better Opportunities for Single (and Unaccompanied) Soldiers, or BOSS, is a dynamic soldier program. It is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for single or geographically single soldiers by providing them an effective voice at the installation where they serve. Soldiers and MWR advisors work hand-in-hand with generals, commanders, command sergeant majors, and first sergeants to provide superior leisure programs and help direct the resolution of quality of life issues for soldiers.
