  2. Propagation Info • Planting date- After frost dates • Days to germination- 10-14 • Days to harvest- 80 days from planting • Climate requirements- Can be grown in zones 1-10

  3. Growing Media • Nutrient Requirements- 1-2-3 NPK ratio for soil or foliar fertilizers • Water Requirements- Dry, Average to Moist • Types of growing media- Sandy Soil, Well Draining, Loamy Soil, Clay Soil, Moist/Wet Soil, Drought/Dry Soil

  4. Maintenance • Light Requirements- Minimum 6-8 hours of full sun a day • Pruning Requirements- none • Misc Chemical applications- Insecticides or Herbicides as needed • Space Requirements- Cultivar requirements will vary, 12”-24” apart

  5. Pests/ Diseases • Possible Pest Issues- Sunflower Moth, Sunflower maggot, Sunflower Beetle , Birds, Cutworm, Weevils and Grasshopper • Possible Disease Issues- Verticillium Wilt and White Mold • Preventive Measures- Keep weeds down by use of herbicides

  6. Marketing • Costs involved- Seed; 3-4 lbs. per acre @ $15.00 a pound, Fertilizer and Herbicides are needed on a large scale crop. • Possible uses- Cut Flowers, Bird Seed and Oil
