  1. Cancer Support Groups To Make Connections and Get Help

  2. Cancer support groups are becoming an integral part of lives of most cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Support groups are the greatest pillars of strengths for patients who have survived cancer and look forward to a new life. Members of these groups normally share their experiences, suggestions and advice with others, helping them grow and evolve. In fact, knowing others feelings and emotions during the cancer treatment helps most patients to recover faster.

  3. Cancer specialists and healthcare providers emphasize on the fact that support groups are as important as physical treatment today. Support groups offer emotional support and help to patients, which is very important for surviving cancer.

  4. While not all patients need support offered beyond the doctors and family, cancer is one such disease that takes out the best in a person leaving him in a hopeless and dilapidated state of mind. As it is important to undergo all the necessary treatment for cancer, such as medication, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and counseling, it is equally important to find support for mental and emotional stability. Though mental health is secondary, it is important anyways.

  5. Understanding Cancer Support Groups Cancer specialists have pointed out that patients heal quicker when they visit support groups and learn better about other patients who have been through cancer and fought bravely. Survival stories give strength and hope to most patients

  6. Support groups, all over the world, is a gathering of people sharing a common health concern, cancer. Cancer support groups normally focus on specific conditions, such as breast cancer, lung cancer, endometrial cancer etc. Support groups provide a common platform to members so that they can come and share their opinions and experiences.

  7. There is a trained healthcare provider and mental health specialists involved in the group to take care of patients during their sessions. Because some of the sessions become emotionally overwhelming, patients may experience some emotional problems that have to be countered by experts.

  8. Cancer support groups are either formed by cancer specialists or lay person; even some survivors create support groups. There may be professional facilitators, psychosocial experts or social workers involved in the group as well. There are some groups that have been structured well to offer educational and informative support.

  9. Benefits of Cancer Support Groups Irrespective of the format, in any cancer support group, you will find people sharing their health complications and issues in a common platform. Members of cancer support groups usually share their experiences of cancer, the treatment, prognosis and recovery.

  10. Members of the support groups offer moral and emotional to one another. They also offer sound practical tips and advice for helping patients to cope with their condition.

  11. Patients benefit widely from participation in cancer support groups. They feel more relieved from their loneliness and the feeling or being judged or isolated. Once again, cancer patients feel a sense of control and empowerment, which they probably lost during the treatment. Support groups also help a lot in improving the coping skills and adaptability. Survivors can speak more openly on their disease and issues they have faced. Being among fellow cancer survivors reduces depression, anxiety and distress.
