PM Training: Most Value Work Breakdown Struc-ture (WBS), Estimating, and Critical Path Iron Triangle and Project Drivers What is needed from a project team Communicating with other personality types Risk Management Aligning sponsors and stakeholders with goals
PM Training: Most Value (p. 2) If forced to pick 1 (it would be) Module 5: Planning the Project. It’s too easy to start the work before we know what the work really is…My dad used to say after 30 years building power lines for Bonneville Power, “Why is there never enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it over?” The importance of various tools such as communications plans, risk mgmt plans, change control plans, etc. It is hard to say that one segment of the workshop was more valuable than any other segment. The entire workshop was very valuable. Governance – got to have a process to be successful
PM Training: 83% Feedback The WBS showed how much work was going to be involved ... much more accurately than I would have previously estimated. I think this is a common mistake in work and schedule planning. The entire workshop was extremely valuable to me – seeing the process as it could be from start to finish. The most valuable was working through part of a project with a team of people I had entered the class ‘thinking’ I knew about project management, but Earl made me realize that there are better, more efficient processes to conducting large projects. Earl was fantastic! This is one of the best classes I attended. The class was excellent and well worthwhile. I’ll recommend this training to others
PM Training: 83% Feedback (p. 2) This was an outstanding course. Well worth the investment. I left the course feeling like I was prepared to develop and manage successful projects. The planning sections were invaluable. Just from going through this class, I think everyone should have some knowledge of project management, just in order to understand the scope of what they are wanting and the impact a minor change in what they are wanting can have on an entire project when the project is in mid-stream. I found value in every segment! Really enjoyed the instructor’s examples. He had work and personal experiences that made a lot of sense. Loved the class – great! I cannot think of any segment that I found of little or no value. All segments were relevant to the class. Jerry was a great instructor – kept me engaged in the class! This (the WBS) is something I will be using moving forward. Fortunately I have a large amount of wall space. Earl was great, Give that man a RAISE!!!!
PM Training: Next Steps • Reserve rooms and instructors for October • Discuss advanced classes with PMOAG • Begin registration process in July

Development costs include costs for internal staff, vendor contracts, equipment and software • Project is included in the bill that provides resources for long-range IT • Project is potentially of enterprise interest or need. For example, document imaging systems have been implemented by a number of agencies with a cost of less than $500,000, however statewide the investment in the technology could be considered significant • Request from the LFC to include the project on the report.
