  2. “W” no longer considered a repeat • There is no relationship between a grade and W in course repetition determination. Example: English 101 (not repeatable): D W W W W F substandard repeat of D; if another W, not funded C substandard repeat of F; if another W, not funded

  3. Up to 4 funded Ws. • Permits colleges/districts to allow additional non funded Ws, by petition. • For reasons that are not necessarily extenuating (i.e. – need a math course to graduate) • Requires notification to faculty of withdrawal. • District policy shall include provisions for intervention. • MW is not included in limitations.

  4. Allows for 2 funded repeats of a substandard grade. Example: English 101 (not repeatable): D – funded original substandard F – funded repeat C – funded repeat

  5. Allows for up to 2 grade alleviations on academic record. Example: English 101 (not repeatable): D – alleviate D – alleviate F – remains • no more grade alleviation permitted • additional repeat is permitted if funding is not claimed • for reasons that are not necessarily extenuating (i.e. – need a math course to graduate) • two additional funded repeats for extenuating circumstances

  7. Conditions for Extenuating Circumstances are unchanged. • By petition • Extenuating defined as “...verified cases of accident, illness, or other circumstances beyond the control of the student.” • Two funded repeats for extenuating circumstances • not permitted beyond the repeat limit for repeatable courses. • Does not pertain to Ws

  8. Conditions for Significant Lapse of Time are unchanged • A student may repeat a repeatable or a non repeatable course , due to a significant lapse of time, when the previous grade earned was standard. • One funded repeat permitted.

  9. Removed language (in red) 55024(a) (8) A “W” shall not be assigned, or if assigned shall be removed, from a student’s academic record, if a determination is made pursuant to sections 59300 et seq. that the student withdrew from the course due to discriminatory treatment or due to retaliation for alleging discriminatory treatment or that the student withdrew because he or she reasonably believed that remaining in the course would subject him or her to discriminatory treatment or retaliation for alleging discriminatory treatment.
