Calories • The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1 degree • All food has a caloric value • They are sometimes called Kilocalories
BMR • Basal Metabolic Rate • The body uses up energy • While doing nothing • While sleeping • The amount you use to live • BMR versus caloric intake
How to diet? • Don’t go too low • Check your BMR • Calculate your Calories • Exercise = more caloric need • Stay a bit under your total need
