  1. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR THE AHSGE MARCH 19-23

  2. Who takes the test? • All 10th graders will take the History, Language and Reading portions of the exam for the first time.  • Any 10th graders who have not taken or passed the Math and/or Science portions will also take those tests.  • All 11th and 12th graders will take all portions not passed.

  3. When are the tests? • Monday March 19 Language • Tuesday March 20 Reading • Wednesday March 21 Biology • Thursday March 22 Math • Friday March 23 Social Studies

  4. When and where will room rosters be posted? • On March 15th, rosters will be posted outside the cafeteria and near the concession stand in the gym lobby.  Rosters will be listed by grade level.  It is each student’s responsibility to verify that his or her name is on the list for any and all portions of the exam not yet passed.  If a student’s name is not on the list for a needed portion, the grade level guidance counselor should be notified by the student.  • 10th grade Mrs. Muhammad • 11th grade Ms. Haynes • 12th grade Mrs. Shumate

  5. If I am scheduled to take the math portion, will I be given an opportunity to practice with the state provided calculator? • Yes, practice will be provided on March 16th during 1st, 2nd and 4th periods in the cafeteria. • 1st period, 10th grade girls will be called to the cafeteria via intercom, then 10th grade boys. • 2nd period, 11th and 12th grade students will be called to the cafeteria via intercom. • 4th period, all MCCTC students will be called to the cafeteria.

  6. Are electronics devices allowed in the testing rooms? • No! All devices will be collected prior to the test and returned to the students when they finish the test. • The test administrator (teacher) will place all devices in a box/basket on his or her desk to insure testing security. • Students will be required to sign a cell phone/device agreement which outlines the consequences of being caught in possession of a device while testing.

  7. What happens if I am caught using a device during the test? • Your device will be confiscated. • Discipline will be administered. • The parent/guardian will have to pick up the device once it has been deemed free of any testing information. It may take longer than a day. • Mr. Wallace will notify the parent when the device can be released to them. Mr. Wallace will inform the ALSDE and your test will not be scored.

  8. Do student athletes who have passed all portions of the AHSGE have to come to school? • Yes, according to the AHSAA players must be in attendance for ½ of the school day on game day. • Athletes must bring a check-in note for a specific day, or a note for all needed days and turn it in by March 16th to the attendance office. When arriving on campus, athletes will sign in at the attendance office. • Athletes will remain in Gym 1 until their respective coaches come to get them. Athletes should ask coaches about specific instructions.

  9. Are student drivers allowed to check out after they complete testing? • Yes, however there will be NO telephone/email/fax check outs during the week of March 19-23. Check out notes must be submitted to the attendance office by 3 P.M. on March 12. • Notes must include the following information: student name, dates of check out(s), parent signature and a telephone number during school hours where the parent may be reached to verify the check out. • All student drivers will report to gym 1 at the end of testing. If verification is not obtained, the student will be denied the privilege of leaving.

  10. May SHS student drivers check-out a student who does not have driving privileges? • Yes, a note with the information listed above, must be provided. • Be certain to include the name of the student with whom your child has been given permission to checkout. • These students will report to gym 1 to wait to be called to meet their ride. • As a reminder, if the SHS student driver is not testing, then he/she must pick up the student from the front office and may NOT enter the student parking lot.

  11. Are students who are picked up by parents/guardians/contacts allowed to check out after testing? • Yes. Normal check-out procedures are in place. Parent/guardian/contact must show proper picture ID. • Remember, only those individuals listed as a contact in INOW may check out a student. • Students who are being checked out by a parent/guardian/contact will report to the cafeteria after testing to wait to be called to the front office. • The identity of students leaving the cafeteria will be verified prior to being released to the parent/guardian/contact.

  12. Are students allowed to be checked out by someone not listed in their INOW account for the testing week? • Yes, if the parent/guardian provides a note to the attendance office by 3 P.M. on March 12th . • The note must include the full name of the person who will check out the child, the specified days, a signature, and a telephone number where the parent/guardian may be reached during the school day (to verify the note). • In the event that the note cannot be verified, then the student will not be released to any individual. • Students waiting for check out will report to the cafeteria. NO telephone/email/fax checkouts will be allowed during the week of March 19-23.

  13. Are students required to check out? • No, it is the choice of the parent whether or not a child checks out at any time. Attendance will be called in the testing rooms each morning and entered into INOW.

  14. What happens if I do not check out after testing? • Students will remain in the gym (boys on one side, girls on the other) until after lunch. • Students will then be relocated to a resource room from 1:00- 3:00 each day.
