  2. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 • Paul’s charge to Timothy, before God and Jesus… (4:1) • Some other “charges” of Paul • 1 Tim. 1:18, 1 Tim. 5:21, 1 Thess. 5:27 • …who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom (4:1) • Living (quick) – Those alive when Christ comes • Dead – Those that will be raised at His coming • Judgment on all will come at “His appearing”, that is His second coming • 1Thess. 4:15-18

  3. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 • Paul’s charge: (4:2) • Preach the word • Be ready in season and out of season • Convince, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching • Time coming when they will not endure sound doctrine (4:3) • Paul has already warned of this • 1 Tim. 4:1, 2 Tim. 3:1-5

  4. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 • They will heap up teachers because of their own desires and their itching ears (4:3) • People will only listen to what they want to hear • They will turn their ears from truth and be turned to fables (4:4) • Paul had already warned Timothy of this also • 1 Tim. 1:4 • But you: (4:5) • Be watchful in all things • Endure afflictions • Do the work of evangelist • Fulfill you ministry

  5. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 • Poured out as a drink offering(4:6) • Num. 15:1-10, 28:4-8 • Time of departure at hand (4:6) • Phil. 1:23 • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (4:7) • Similar exhortation to Timothy • 1 Tim. 6 12

  6. 2 Timothy 4:1-8 • A crown of life is laid up for me…and for all who have loved His appearing (4:8) • Crown of life is a faithful Christians reward • 1 Pet. 5:4, Jas. 1:12, Rev. 2:10 • All Christians should look forward to Christ’s second coming
