  3. How to do this training with me.... What do you think about what I just said? To train the body you have to activate the body. To train the mind you have to activate the mind. Be prepared to think and to talk. Our conversations are your workouts for the mind – it is the through conversations that we get your thoughts stimulated; our conversations help you understand how to get the quality reps in that the mind needs.

  4. How to do this training with me.... • The result of the training will be a more expanded view of what it means to fully apply yourself to the task at hand – to the challenges you get to face because of the life you lead as a high-end athlete.

Keys to the work we will do.... • I don’t try to give you my blueprint for success. • I help you create your own; I provide the frameworks to think within. • Every athlete should have their own pillars for success, know specific things they truly believe in when it comes to optimal performance and be able to state them clearly. This idea is entirely congruent to the way a team/organization must have pillars that describe what they stand for. I help you understand your beliefs • Training with me creates a stronger spirit of leadership within you; that's a good thing. • By experiencing the training you’ll do with me as if"you have to learn it like you will teach it" you become more conscious of how to coach yourself. • When you feel a greater ability to be responsible for your clarity you are more in touch with what it means to be intentional. • Regular conversations with me matter. They stimulate the mind the way a great workout stimulates the body. • The Athlete’s Journey challenges you and teaches you. We want to be prepared; we can never take having a great mindset for granted.

  6. Commit to Great Thinking If You Are Trying To Take Things To The Next Level Be Sure To Focus On The Mindset Your Accomplishment Will Require. Hockey Coach Example If we are going to become a more productive team offensively we will do drills that improve our skills, we will create and execute strategies and we will decide how we need to think and then take ownership of that thinking.

  8. Feeling a strong sense of being intentional – an awareness of how your attitude will affect your actions, behavior and conduct. It’s about knowing how you show up. The quality things that happen are things you want happening when you’re intentional. Being “on-purpose” requires first a created vision for success, followed by activation of the vision. When we’re truly “on-purpose” we happily take ownership of performance and results. We feel in command and connected to a planned process that will bring the outcomes we seek. Be On Purpose

  11. The Power Source – Create Your Attitude Thoughts create your attitude. Your attitude is the Power Source for your energy. Our brains wire and re-wire themselves in response to our most used thought patterns. We want to understand and commit to the thought patterns that will help us the most. Because trained neurons fire faster and clearer signals than untrained neurons, when we learn something and repeat it, we form circuits that tend to outcompete other circuits. Soon there is a tendency to follow the path most traveled.Once a way of thinking and practicing within a framework becomes habitual, it becomes ingrained, and a significant amount of energy, focus and commitment to new habits/routines is required to reshape old thought patterns and institute new practices.

  12. How We Think Matters. The thoughts we think construct the feelings, energy and clarity we need to perform at our maximum levels. Being fully conscious of how we are thinking in many ways comes down to deciding what we will honor. The simple point to understand is: • Whatever your primary and dominant thoughts are is what you are honoring. Example: If you mainly think thoughts that make you worried then you are honoring worry. If you think thoughts that make you feel determined then you are honoring determination. We all get to decide what’s important to us and what isn’t, what has real meaning to us and what doesn’t. Choosing the right thinking is self-leadership at it’s very core.

  15. Key Concept #2. 2. What We Pay Attention To Will Grow. The way you develop your mind muscle is the same way you develop your body muscle. Reps matter. Intentional reps, quality reps, disciplined reps, really matter.

  17. Key Concept #4. • 4. We all can and do lead ourselves. What's at stake is where we are leading ourselves - to a good spot to be or to a spot where very little good is going to happen.

  20. Two Wolves • One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. • One Wolf is “The Evil Wolf - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” • The other Wolf is “The Good Wolf - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” • The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?“ • The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed." • TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR BEING READY!

Language Matters Big Time. • Words matter. • Words get things going; they create energy. • The words a leader uses can have an amazing impact on the team member's perspective. • Teams run really well when everyone involved is paying attention to the power of their words – the words they use externally and internally. • Mentally tough players always have words that they live by. • Huge Point: Your Self-talk needs to feature a Leadership Vocabulary.

  30. When we live with the Ownership Spirit: We take charge of our circumstances. We're clear in our understanding of consequences of our choices, actions, reactions, etc. We go after results with a strong vigor to excel and succeed. Our definitions of excellence and success make sense and brings true reward. We show up in a high quality way because that's how we roll. We're engaged in the process of things the way a True Pro engages. When we connect to The Ownership Spirit our thinking is focused on what to do – we see the options, we get engaged in a course of action, we build up a stronger and stronger attitude.

  31. When we are in Victim mode: We see the disappointments of life as happening to me rather than understanding that something has occurred that I will deal with. We look to find the scapegoat, blame someone else or persuade ourselves that it was the conditions or circumstances that dictated how things happened. We say things like, "Here we go again, This is what always happens to me, It feels like its just one problem after another”, etc. We forget to make the connection that No Matter What, our attitudes, moods, actions and behavior are always going to be entirely our choice. We stop truly working on challenges and problems let alone our goals and our Vision for Excellence. We cease to recognize all the opportunities we have to improve things and to make a productive difference for ourselves and those around us.

We all go back and forth between Owner style thinking and • Victimstyle thinking. • There is no 24/7 "ownership" going on but we can become really conscious of how strong our levels are either way. We want to find that ability to think like an owner consistently. Here's a good reason why: • Victim thinking really saps the Good Energy and jams up the • valve of will power that helps make us clear and determined, • awake, enthusiastic and alive. • The Ownership vs. Victim distinction: • Creates clear separation between two different patterns of thought. • Represents the understanding of two options, and two options only, for ways to approach what we're contending with. • Makes a point of how we are viewing our world.

  33. Set your vision and set your goals. Own your goals. Activate your vision. • Develop self-confidence, belief in yourself and live with a go-for-it attitude. • Stay relaxed under pressure. Being nervous isn’t a problem to overcome. • Full focus on what’s important – strong ability to let go of everything else. • Quick regroups from bad breaks or mistakes. Overcome failures. • Handle last minute self-doubts; manage negative thinking. Change energy. • Use positive imagery and mental rehearsal in preparation for performance. • Recognize mental traps (unnecessary associations) and avoid/dismiss them. • What seems most important to you right now in the • Checklist above? • It’s not complicated. There is a simplicity to all of this. • But “simple” doesn’t mean easy.
