The Society for the Environment is a non-political, not-for-profit organization that certifies environmental and sustainability professionals as Chartered Environmentalists (CEnv). Founded in 2000 and granted a Royal Charter in 2004, the Society recognizes high levels of professionalism among over 5,200 registered environmentalists worldwide. Achieving CEnv status demonstrates competence and commitment to sustainable environmental management. Candidates must meet education and experience requirements and adhere to a Code of Ethics. The Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) • CEnv is the highest level of professional qualification available to environmental practitioners. • Chartered Environmentalist recognises high levels of professionalism and competence of individuals working in environmental fields • There are over 5200 environmental professionals worldwide registered as Chartered Environmentalists

To become a Chartered Environmentalist a candidate must: • Be a full member of a licensed body • Have a minimum of 12 units of knowledge and/or experience,which will include at least 4 years relevant experience,depending upon the level and duration of academic study • Demonstrate knowledge of, competence in and experience of sustainable environmental management • Agree to comply with the Society’s Code of Ethics andCPD requirements of their licensed body.

Education and Experience required… Candidates must accrue a total of 12 units where: • 1 Year’s full-time relevant experience = 1 Unit • 1 Year’s full-time relevant education = 2 Units • The minimum qualifying academic/vocational qualifications are HNC/HND or NVQ level 4. • A maximum of 8 units can be accrued for education. • A minimum of 4 Years’ relevant experience is required.
